Where to stay
Not every area in Portland hits the same vibe. Here's where each verified property actually sits, and what each pocket feels like at night.
Portland's cobblestoned historic core beside the working waterfront — steps from the best restaurants, bars, breweries, ferries, and shops. This is where the energy is: narrow streets lined with exposed-brick taverns, fresh oyster bars, and the constant smell of seafood. Best for foodies and couples who want to walk everywhere and skip the car.
The High Street and Congress Street corridor around the Portland Museum of Art and the leafy West End, walkable to downtown but a touch quieter. Tree-lined streets, galleries, independent bookstores, and cafes; one block away from city bustle. Best for museum-goers and travelers who want character and central access without the Old Port buzz.
The Riverside Street strip off I-95 near the Portland Jetport — easy highway access, free parking, and pools, about 15–20 minutes from downtown. This is where budget and road-trip travelers stay: chain restaurants, shopping, and low rates. Best for early flights, budget travelers, and road-trippers who don't mind a car ride to the waterfront.
Things to do in Portland
The Old Port is Portland's cobblestoned historic core beside the working waterfront — Fore, Exchange, and Wharf Streets are packed with restaurants, bars, breweries, and shops. Stroll Commercial Street to watch fishing boats unload at the lobster wharves and book a schooner cruise.
Portland Head Light, Maine's most photographed lighthouse, sits at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth about 15 minutes south of downtown. Walk the grounds, climb the tower (on certain days), and explore the adjacent museum and coastal trails.
The Portland Museum of Art (PMA) in the Arts District showcases Winslow Homer seascapes, Andrew Wyeth paintings,, and a strong collection of American and European art; nearby, the Victoria Mansion and the Wadsworth-Longfellow House open their landmark historic interiors to visitors.
Casco Bay Lines ferries depart from the Old Port waterfront to the Calendar Islands — Peaks Island is especially popular for biking and island beaches. A 20-minute ride whisks you from the city to quiet coves.
The Eastern Promenade is a hilltop waterfront park and multi-use trail with Casco Bay views, perfect for walking, running, or sitting with a coffee. The paved Back Cove loop is a favorite local jog. Above all, come hungry: Portland is one of the country's great food towns, where James Beard–level restaurants, oyster bars, and craft breweries pack the peninsula, and a self-guided eating-and-brewery crawl through the Old Port is a destination in itself.
Make a night of it
A hot tub stay in Portland isn't just about the soak — it's about what you do before you slip in. These pairings turn an ordinary night into a story you'll repeat.
Spend the afternoon and evening working your way through the Old Port's famous restaurants and oyster bars — Eventide for uni and creativity, Duckfat for duck confit fries, Eventide sister restaurant Holy Donut for lobster donuts and dessert. Come back to your junior suite at the Portland Harbor Hotel with its soaking tub and separate shower, draw a hot bath with a view of the courtyard garden, and soak away the evening.
Drive 15 minutes south to Portland Head Light, hike the rocky trails around Fort Williams Park, climb the lighthouse tower (seasonal access), and explore the keeper's house museum. Finish the day at the Portland Regency's on-site spa: soak in the jacuzzi, relax in the sauna, then head to the Iron Works whisky bar for a nightcap.
Take a morning or afternoon Casco Bay ferry from the Old Port to Peaks Island — rent a bike, explore the quiet beaches, and loop back in time for dinner at one of the harborside restaurants. Walk back to your hotel (Portland Harbor or Portland Regency) for a private soak in your room or spa.
Explore the PMA's Homer seascapes and American galleries, then wander High Street and Congress Street for independent shops, galleries, and coffee. Stay at the Westin for access to Top of the East rooftop bar — order a cocktail and watch the sunset over the city from 15 stories up.
Portland's brewery scene is nationally recognized — visit Rising Tide, Allagash, or Oxbow for tastings and tours. Cap the evening at the Westin's Top of the East rooftop bar, where the 270° views and bourbon list match the brewery's creativity.

Getting here
Portland International Jetport (PWM) is just 10 minutes from downtown — Maine's main airport with direct flights to many hubs. The Amtrak Downeaster runs from Boston (approximately 2.5 hours, several times daily) to the Portland Transportation Center; Concord Coach Lines buses also serve Boston and Logan. Driving from Boston takes about 2 hours via I-95 (Maine Turnpike) and I-295.
Downtown and the Old Port are very walkable; Greater Portland METRO buses and Casco Bay Lines ferries cover the rest. A car helps for Portland Head Light, Freeport, and the beaches, but isn't needed to enjoy the waterfront and restaurants. Expect to pay for garage (approximately $38) or valet (approximately $45) parking in the Old Port. In summer the Old Port and waterfront get busy, so many visitors leave the car at the hotel and explore on foot, hopping a Casco Bay ferry to Peaks Island or catching a METRO bus for trips farther out — a car is most useful for day trips to Portland Head Light, Freeport, and the southern beaches.
When to visit
Hot tub stays read differently in February than they do in July. Here's what to expect across the year — temperatures, signature events, the local vibe, and how rates move.
Tub types, explained
Technically a brand name, but used generically for any jetted tub. In hotel listings, "jacuzzi suite" almost always means a private in-room tub with built-in air or water jets. Heat is usually preset; jets are user-controlled.
Functionally identical to a jacuzzi — water jets circulate heated water for a massage effect. The term is more common at Marriott, Hilton, and Wyndham brands. Most "whirlpool suites" hold two adults comfortably.
Deeper than a standard bathtub, usually 18–22 inches, but with no jets. Common in boutique and luxury hotels — quieter, more spa-like, and better for a long hot soak than the jet-driven hum of a jacuzzi.
In strict use, a standalone heated tub holding 100°F+ water. In hotel marketing, often used interchangeably with jacuzzi or whirlpool. A genuine in-room "hot tub" with full thermostat control is rare outside cabin-style resorts.
Every listing on this page specifies which type you'll find in the room. We list only properties with the tub in your room — not in a shared pool area or the lobby spa.

Why trust us
Every hotel on this page has been personally verified to have a private, in-room hot tub or jacuzzi — not a shared pool tub, not a bathroom soaker, not a spa amenity you have to book. We cross-check three sources for every listing: the hotel's own room photos and descriptions, recent guest reviews on TripAdvisor and Google, and direct confirmation from the hotel where unclear. We don't take payment for placement, and we don't generate listings with AI. If a hotel's tub status changes or a property closes, the page updates the next time we re-verify the city (Dothan was last checked May 2026).
