Where to stay
Not every area in Newark hits the same vibe. Here's where each verified property actually sits, and what each pocket feels like at night.
On the University of Delaware campus corridor along Ogletown Road and David Hollowell Drive, two Marriott-brand hotels serve the UD academic, athletic and campus-visit market. The SpringHill Suites by Marriott Newark Downtown (4.5, 76 reviews) at 402 Ogletown Road is the TOP-RATED Newark pick — 4-star with pool, free breakfast, fitness center, kids-stay-free rooms, spacious West-Elm-designed suites, walking-distance to Main Street Newark and named front-desk agent Ella. Recent 1-star flag on a car-revving disruption during a sports-event weekend. The Courtyard by Marriott Newark-University of Delaware (4.2, 307 reviews) at 400 David Hollowell Drive is the on-campus Marriott — pet-friendly, bar/lounge, fitness center, conference facilities, guest-favorite crab cakes at the on-site restaurant and named staff Taj, Ador and bartender Ed. Recent flags include a 1-star double-charge complaint via third-party booking and a 3-star older-property flag. Best for UD parents, prospective-student campus tours, Blue Hens sports weekends, UD graduation and Homecoming visitors and UD-linked business travelers wanting walking-distance to Main Street Newark and the UD campus.
On the I-95 / Route 273 / Chapman Road corridor 5 minutes east of Christiana Mall and ChristianaCare Christiana Hospital, three hotels serve I-95 and hospital-visit travelers. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Wilmington-Newark by IHG (4.4, 327 reviews) at 1201 Christiana Road is the top-rated pick — 4-star HIE with pool, free breakfast, fitness center, kids-stay-free and cleanliness 4.7. Recent flags: 3-star pool-closed-Mondays and 3-star housekeeping-once-in-5-nights over July 4 weekend. Staybridge Suites Wilmington-Newark by IHG (4.3, 237 reviews) at 270 Chapman Road is an extended-stay all-suite with kitchens, pool (SHARED with attached Ramada per candid review), free breakfast, cleanliness 4.7 headline but with RECURRING roach flags in 2023 AND 2024, worn furniture, dirty tub and Ramada-guest overflow with no staff oversight. Four Points by Sheraton Newark-Christiana (3.9, 171 reviews) at 56 South Old Baltimore Pike is a mid-range 3-star with bar/lounge, kid-friendly amenities, airport transportation and pet-friendly — a 1-star no-hotel-keys stay and a 1-star mold-blanket complaint balanced against a 5-star Valentine's Day. Best for I-95 corridor travelers, ChristianaCare-hospital family visits, extended-stay contract workers and Christiana Mall shoppers.
On the Churchmans Road / Christiana Mall side and I-95 exits, two value-interstate motels round out the Newark cluster with heavy candid warnings. The Days Inn by Wyndham Newark Wilmington (2.9, 493 reviews) at 900 Churchmans Road is a 2-star budget motel — pet-friendly, kids-stay-free, 24-hour check-in — but a 1-star recent guest changed rooms 3 times for personal-safety concerns (broken door latch, sketchy men in surrounding rooms) and a 3-star flagged the pool being out-of-commission for 2 years. The Motel 6 Newark, DE (2.3, 48 reviews) at 100 McIntosh Plaza is the STRONGEST WARNING — 2-star with cleanliness 2.2 and rooms 2.2 and multiple mold, dirt, roach and safety flags across years. Book Motel 6 only with extreme caution. Best only for value-first interstate travelers who accept the safety and cleanliness signals and cannot find alternate lodging.
Things to do in Newark
University of Delaware campus is the anchor — 24,000+ students on a walkable campus in downtown Newark, with Delaware Stadium (Blue Hens football, September-November home games), Bob Carpenter Center (basketball), Trabant University Center, the historic Old College and the Green. Blue Hens football home Saturdays fill Newark hotels 3-4 months out; UD graduation weekends in May and December do the same.
Main Street Newark is a walkable college-town restaurant and shopping strip stretching from South College Ave — Deer Park Tavern (established 1851), Home Grown Cafe, Klondike Kate's Restaurant & Saloon, Iron Hill Brewery Newark, Grotto Pizza, Newark Natural Foods Co-op and dozens of student-focused spots. The SpringHill Suites Newark Downtown is walking-distance.
Christiana Mall is 5 minutes east of the I-95 hotels — Delaware's largest tax-free shopping mall (Delaware charges no sales tax, a regional draw). Anchor tenants Nordstrom, Macy's, Target, Apple, and Cinemark Christiana IMAX.
ChristianaCare Christiana Hospital medical complex is 5 minutes east — Delaware's largest hospital system and a major driver of family-visit and medical-conference stays. The HIE Suites and Staybridge Suites are the natural hospital-visit bases.
Brandywine du Pont estates — Hagley, Winterthur, Nemours — are 25 minutes north for gardens, decorative-arts museums and the Louis XVI mansion. White Clay Creek State Park just north of Newark offers hiking and fly-fishing. Delaware Park casino and racetrack is 10 minutes north for slots and thoroughbred racing.
Wilmington Riverfront is 20 minutes north for Blue Rocks minor-league baseball at Frawley Stadium and the Delaware Contemporary museum. Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square PA is 30 minutes north. Spring brings du Pont gardens; summer runs Christiana Mall sales and quieter campus; fall is Blue Hens football and du Pont fall foliage; winter is UD graduation, Christiana Mall Black Friday and holiday shopping.

Getting here
Newark sits on I-95 in New Castle County about 20 minutes southwest of downtown Wilmington and 45 minutes southwest of Philadelphia. Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is about 40 minutes north via I-95 and is the preferred flight-in for UD visitors; Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) is about 60 minutes southwest. Wilmington Amtrak Station on the Northeast Corridor is about 20 minutes north for Acela Express and Northeast Regional service to New York (about 90 minutes), Philadelphia (25 minutes), Baltimore (45 minutes) and Washington DC (about 90 minutes). Newark Amtrak/SEPTA Station on South College Ave sits at the SEPTA terminus for Wilmington-Philadelphia commuter rail — limited Amtrak service but the SEPTA option is useful for Philadelphia day trips. The 7 hotels split across UD campus (SpringHill Suites, Courtyard on Ogletown Rd / David Hollowell Dr), I-95/Route 273/Chapman Road (HIE, Staybridge, Four Points, Motel 6) and Churchmans Road at Christiana Mall (Days Inn) — all within a 5-10 minute drive of each other and 5-15 minutes to Christiana Mall. A rental car is recommended for hospital and mall access; the two campus Marriotts are walking-distance to Main Street Newark and UD.
When to visit
Hot tub stays read differently in February than they do in July. Here's what to expect across the year — temperatures, signature events, the local vibe, and how rates move.
Tub types, explained
Technically a brand name, but used generically for any jetted tub. In hotel listings, "jacuzzi suite" almost always means a private in-room tub with built-in air or water jets. Heat is usually preset; jets are user-controlled.
Functionally identical to a jacuzzi — water jets circulate heated water for a massage effect. The term is more common at Marriott, Hilton, and Wyndham brands. Most "whirlpool suites" hold two adults comfortably.
Deeper than a standard bathtub, usually 18–22 inches, but with no jets. Common in boutique and luxury hotels — quieter, more spa-like, and better for a long hot soak than the jet-driven hum of a jacuzzi.
In strict use, a standalone heated tub holding 100°F+ water. In hotel marketing, often used interchangeably with jacuzzi or whirlpool. A genuine in-room "hot tub" with full thermostat control is rare outside cabin-style resorts.
Every listing on this page specifies which type you'll find in the room. We list only properties with the tub in your room — not in a shared pool area or the lobby spa.

Why trust us
Every hotel on this page has been personally verified to have a private, in-room hot tub or jacuzzi — not a shared pool tub, not a bathroom soaker, not a spa amenity you have to book. We cross-check three sources for every listing: the hotel's own room photos and descriptions, recent guest reviews on TripAdvisor and Google, and direct confirmation from the hotel where unclear. We don't take payment for placement, and we don't generate listings with AI. If a hotel's tub status changes or a property closes, the page updates the next time we re-verify the city (Dothan was last checked May 2026).
