About The Hotel
The Red Roof Inn Charleston - Dunbar is a 2-star Red Roof value-tier property at 317 11th Street south of I-64 exit 55 in Dunbar, Kanawha County, West Virginia, in the Charleston metropolitan area. Rated 2.5 across only 12 reviews - LOW OVERALL RATING and LOW REVIEW COUNT with weak subratings: sleep quality 3.6 (top), location 3.4, service 3.0, cleanliness 3.0, rooms 2.9, value 2.1. Priced $55-$71 per night. Amenities include free parking, WiFi, pet-friendly rooms and non-smoking property. NO POOL, NO IN-ROOM WHIRLPOOL, NO SHARED HOT TUB - the property is a stripped-down Red Roof budget property that shows up in ‘hot tub’ hotel search results despite not having a hot tub of any kind. Recent candid flags are severe. A December 20, 2025 1-star bed-bug report: ‘BED BUGS - Insulting, threatening. DO NOT STAY HERE. BED BUGS. I reported bed bugs by phone on the evening of 12/20/2025. The front desk agent repeatedly hung up on me. I was forced to contact the Health Department and the Better Business Bureau.’ Another 1-star: ‘Don’t bother staying here. Our last visit, there were ants in our room and the bed was broke. We were also accused of stealing towels and they kept $25 of the $100 deposit.’ Another 1-star: ‘A dump. The air conditioner is noisy.’ Balanced against one 4-star: ‘Great for the price and free pet. Great for the PRICE!! Dakota at the front desk was the friendliest greeting I have had for a while. No charge for a pet. My regular more expensive hotels don’t do that!’ - the front-desk friendliness and pet-friendly no-charge policy is the one positive. Serious cautions apply. Dunbar sits on I-64 exit 55 in the Charleston metro - 5 minutes east to downtown Charleston and the state capitol, 10 minutes west to WVSU Institute, 15 minutes east to CRW airport, 15 minutes north to Coonskin Park, 25 minutes south to Kanawha State Forest, 75 minutes southeast to New River Gorge National Park. For a much better Charleston metro overnight, consider Elkview’s La Quinta (20 min north, 4.0/462, $74-$79 with best-hot-breakfast-in-region praise) or Hurricane’s Hampton Inn (25 min west on I-64, 4.1/426). This listing exists for completeness of the WV hot-tub-search page; the property has no hot tub of any kind and comes with a recent Dec 2025 bed-bug report.

What guests are saying about Red Roof Inn Dunbar.
"Let’s start this by saying, no it is not the Hilton, Marriott, or IHG. But come on people, if you want a simple, quick, clean stop over, this is great for the PRICE!! This one does not have hot breakfast but at this price we never eat the sugar/carb processed bars at less expensive hotels. My rating is on value, cleanliness, and service. Most of our regular more expensive hotels have polite staff and more amenities. Dakota at the front desk was the friendliest greeting I have had for a while. He could easily work at a more expensive hotel but for tonight since we picked here for what I mentioned above I am glad he is here! Last note. We also picked this because although Moose, our boxer has travelled all over North America with us in my truck and our RV. This is his first hotel and he loved Dakota. He was beat by a man as a pup and doesn’t like many unknown ones. Anyway No charge for a pet (1). My regular more expensive hotels don’t do that!"
