About The Hotel

Wyndham Garden Cross Lanes Charleston is the value chain-hotel alternative in Cross Lanes - a 3-star hotel at 102 Racer Drive off I-64 exit 47 in Kanawha County with the largest review base in the city (764 reviews). Rated 3.8 with subratings running 3.8-4.3: location 4.3 strongest, service 4.1 solid, cleanliness 4.0 and sleep quality 4.0 mid-tier, rooms 3.9 and value 3.8 the honest weakness. Amenities include CONFIRMED indoor heated pool per an April 2026 5-star reviewer (‘we always enjoy our stay here, staff is friendly, beds are comfy, pool is indoors and heated’), free breakfast (hit-or-miss per multiple reviews), fitness center, business center, conference facilities, free parking and free WiFi. Mid-renovation status CONFIRMED by a May 2026 4-star: ‘this hotel badly needs a renovation and indeed they are in the middle of one. Paint is in bad shape, broken washing machines and ice machines are in need of repair. But the room was clean, the shower worked well and the staff was pleasant. I thought the chair and stool were outdated and could have been replaced. But maybe they are in the middle of doing that. Bad issue: My biggest concern was one of safety. The outside doors were left open at night’ and a June 2026 4-star: ‘hotel outdated but is getting renovation in Dec.’ Recent 5-star praise (May 2026): ‘easy to get to off of 64. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. It was very clean both our room and bathroom. The lady taking care of breakfast took so much pride in making sure everything was clean and well stocked. Lots of food to choose from. We slept very well because it was so quiet. It was priced very reasonable.’ SIGNIFICANT CANDID RECENT FLAGS: an August 2026 4-star reports ‘the exterior doors are broken, this would be very unsafe for a single woman attempting to get into their room’; a May 2026 4-star reports ‘outside doors were left open at night’; a July 2026 2-star reports ‘hallway was very run down and some of the doors had no locks with the doors ajar, tiles were missing from the ceiling and it definitely needed to be painted and updated. I actually felt unsafe because it didn’t seem as though anyone else was staying on that floor and the length of the hallways were extremely long and deserted’; a May 2026 1-star reports ‘the hotel had foster children staying in it and upon our arrival one of them through a metal table through an exterior glass door of the hotel. We were staying there for a hotel tournament with teenage girls and did not feel safe’; and a May 2026 3-star reports the in-room fridge failed twice destroying food and the hotel breakfast ran out 40 minutes before closing. Best only for budget-conscious road-trippers who accept the mid-renovation and door-security flags, teenagers-tournament team-booking families (with the safety flags read first) and travelers who specifically want the confirmed heated indoor pool at a lower price point than the other two Cross Lanes hotels.

"Six years ago, after hitting a deer on I-64 in West Virginia at 3:30 AM, I decided to make my long drives more comfortable by overnighting at the nearest hotel halfway to my destination. On this trip, I stayed at the Wyndham Garden Cross Lanes in Charleston, West Virginia. Meadow, a friendly working professional at the front desk, welcomed me and helped secure a room for my girlfriend and me. She was approachable, cheerful, and attentive to all incoming guests, making them feel right at home. Meadow also checked with me to ensure everything was perfect in our room, which had a king-sized bed. The breakfast offerings were a nice bonus. We plan to return if we pass through this way again on future road trips. I'm gonna try to tell my recent experience with Wyndham Garden on a future episode of my podcast: The Twenty400 Block Podcast."

"We stopped at this hotel on a drive to a business meeting due to severe weather. Everyone was so great! Meadow was so amazing the next morning helping us with booking another night and getting us all set up. She was so pleasant and friendly and just made us feel so welcome in a situation that felt so frustrating for us. Her supervisor, Emerald was also lovely, as she checked on us and her staff member to make sure she was there if needed. It was just really nice ,in a bad situation to find this place with outstanding service and a warm, safe, comfortable place to rest our heads!"

"I was taking my son back to college and had been driving all day, planning to stop for the night. I wasn’t familiar with the area, so I booked through Hotels.com—but accidentally entered the wrong dates. When I arrived, Makala was absolutely incredible. Even though she had clearly had a long day herself, she handled my mistake with grace, care, and compassion. She quickly sorted everything out and made me feel completely at ease. What really stood out was that the entire team went above and beyond to make our stay great, despite the fact that the issue was entirely my fault. Their professionalism and kindness turned what could have been a stressful situation into a wonderful experience. I can’t speak highly enough of Makala and the whole staff—they truly exemplify outstanding customer service."
