“We have stayed at quite a few B&Bs within the Select Registry collection, but we must admit that the 1900 Inn on Montford is an absolute winner! From the moment we arrived, the inn felt like a home away from home. We loved the house, an architectural gem from the early 20th century, and the historic Montford neighborhood. But most of all, Willy and Shawnie (the inn owners) made us feel as though we were being welcomed by dear old friends— warm, attentive people who are also true professionals with a genuine passion for hospitality. My favorite part of each day was breakfast. We often enjoyed it on the front porch overlooking the shady, tree-lined street. The breakfasts were outstanding—delicious 3-course gourmet, farm-to-table, and prepared from scratch by Willy himself. Just as memorable were our conversations with him, which became one of the highlights of our stay. We came to Asheville to celebrate my birthday, and I mentioned that when making the reservation. Even so, I was genuinely surprised by the thoughtful welcome that awaited me: a complimentary bottle of champagne, flowers, chocolates, and—most touching of all—a handwritten birthday card signed by the innkeepers. To make the occasion even more special, Willy and Shawnie graciously upgraded us from the Thomas Wolfe room to the charming two-bedroom Zelda’s Retreat suite. What a generous and thoughtful gift for someone who was simply another guest! The suite was beautiful, with an elegant, light-filled bathroom stocked with organic bath salts and thoughtful amenities. The entire space was filled with charming details, from the selection of books to the embroidered artwork, cheerful quilt, and exceptionally comfortable bedding. We stayed for four nights and only wished we could have stayed longer. We are sincerely grateful for the care and hard work that Willy and Shawnie put into the inn every day. The historic Montford neighborhood is beautiful, just a 20-minute walk from downtown Asheville and a short drive from the Biltmore Estate. “I cannot say enough good things about the 1900 Inn on Montford. The inn itself is beautiful and comfortable, the amenities are top-notch, the breakfasts are excellent, the location is perfect—and, most of all, Shawnie and Willy are incredible hosts! It was my birthday when we visited, and they went above and beyond to make my birthday so, so special. They spoiled me with their kindness and generosity! I was truly speechless. It was such an amazing stay. They get everything right, from the big things (the bed was so cozy, the shower was like a spa experience, the food is gourmet) to the little things (fresh flowers, linen napkins, delicious coffee). We loved just hanging out on the porch in the evenings. And the cookies! Those alone are worth the 600-mile drive. I mean, I will dream about Shawnie’s pecan pie cookies until I return. The hospitality and the attention to detail are unmatched. (We left early on our last day, and Willy and Shawnie sent us with hot breakfast sandwiches, croissants, and coffee. The thoughtfulness!) “Fourth of July weekend at the 1900 Inn on Montford in Asheville, NC was spectacular. We checked in on a Friday afternoon, unpacked quickly before driving to Sierra Nevada Brewing Company for a free evening outdoor rock concert in their amphitheater. The beer is great and the music was delightful. Only a 20 minute or so drive away, we were back in the B&B by 10pm. Each and every morning, Willy, one of the two owners, cooks an amazing three course breakfast with fresh squeezed juice and the best coffee in the world. His wife, Shawnie, bakes incredibly tasty cookies and packages them in individual bags with the name of the cookie printed on the label. There are usually 10 varieties of cookies and other snacks, water, sodas to choose from and the best cappuccino, espresso machine to use 24 hours a day. Why would you want to stay anywhere else when visiting Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Location wise, this B&B is literally 10 minutes from dozens of restaurants, stores, and parks, and is the historical district with beautiful homes up and down the neighborhood.” — LilStorm, 5 stars
