Black Bear Resort
"A 3.7/71 3-star Canaan Valley cabin-and-lodge resort in Davis WV - jacuzzi cabins exist in the mix but individually-owned units vary in quality."
About The Hotel
Black Bear Resort is a 3-star Canaan Valley cabin-and-lodge resort at 247 Lodge Drive on Northside Courtland Road in Davis, Tucker County, West Virginia. Rated 3.7 across 71 reviews with mixed subratings: cleanliness 4.4 (top), location 4.4 (top), value 4.0, sleep quality 3.8, service 3.8, rooms 3.7 (weakest). Amenities include free parking, WiFi, pool, badminton, hiking access, kid/family activities, pets allowed and concierge. The property is a mix of individually-owned rental cabins spread across the Canaan Valley hillside, which means unit-to-unit quality varies significantly by owner. Multiple recent 5-star reviewers confirm jacuzzi cabins exist in the mix: a 10-year anniversary couple in cabin 20B wrote ‘My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary here and it was absolutely amazing! Very friendly staff who didn’t bother you and the cabin (20B) was so clean and welcoming. The jacuzzi was great and our neighbors’; another 5-star family reviewer wrote ‘The cabin/house was large and clean with a fireplace, large deck, jacuzzi tub, and a lot of other amenities. It’s also well located just a few miles from Davis, Thomas, Black Water Falls, and Canaan Valley’; a Rhonda B. anniversary weekend in ‘On Mountain Time’ unit 76 wrote ‘This is a newly renovated unit and it didn’t disappoint. Kitchen was perfectly stocked and the beds were very comfortable.’ But recent candid 1-star flags include ‘The place is dirty and gross and hasn’t been cleaned since last time somebody stayed in it,’ a prospective-vacation-home-buyer couple who reported a dirty cabin on arrival and looked elsewhere, and a strict 14-day cancellation policy with no medical or emergency exemption (a couple lost their deposit after a wife’s lung cancer diagnosis). Davis sits at 3,200 feet elevation in the Potomac Highlands - about 5 minutes from Blackwater Falls State Park, 10 minutes from Timberline and Canaan Valley Resort ski areas, walking distance to downtown Davis breweries, 30 minutes from Dolly Sods Wilderness, 60 minutes from Seneca Rocks, 1.5 hours east of CKB airport and 2.5 hours from Pittsburgh and Washington-DC. Best for Blackwater Falls waterfall visitors, Timberline and Canaan Valley skiers, Monongahela National Forest hikers and Blackwater Bike Park summer mountain bikers who are willing to book a specific cabin carefully, read recent unit-specific reviews, and confirm jacuzzi presence at booking.
What Guests Are Saying
“5 Star Review for our early Spring 2023 get-away in cabin 20B. Our cabin was beautiful, clean, cozy and comfortable. All amenities in the cabin were great. No problems with checking in or out. Desk service was friendly and knowledgeable. Kids enjoyed fishing… caught a few sunfish at the ponds. Bring your own bait and matches. Weather was a bit snowy, common for the time of year in this area, recommend 4 wheel drive. Roads were cleared and passable with no problems. Scenery was beautiful, esp Blackwater Falls. Our cabin was next to a beautiful horse farm. We saw many deer and wild turkeys. Campground was quiet and relaxing. Recommend dining locally at Hellbender Burritos, excellent food. Do not waste your time at Mama Mias Restaurant, slow and surprisingly expensive. Overall trip was great, traveling from PA. We will def be back again.” — Jennifer N., 5 stars
“Spent our anniversary weekend “On Mountain Time” unit 76 and it was awesome. This is a newly renovated unit and it didn’t disappoint. Kitchen was perfectly stocked and the beds were very comfortable. I recommend this unit if you’re looking for a mountain vacation. We can’t wait to go back. 10 out of 10.” — Rhonda B., 5 stars
“My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Black Bear Resort. The cabin/house was large and clean with a fireplace, large deck, jacuzzi tub, and a lot of other amenities. What guests are saying about Black Bear Resort.
"We escaped for a snowy last minute getaway in WV. We booked cabin 32 a couple days before we arrived. We found the cabin, warm, cosy and inviting. The kitchen and living area is big enough for two people but probably not for a small family. It was well stocked with a variety of kitchen essentials. Gas fireplace was lovely and so were the automatic candle lanterns. Overall, the surrounding areas were spectacular with stunning views. 10 minute drive to ski resorts & 10 minute drive to Davis. We would recommend 4WD but not essential as long as you are slow and patient for the plough + gritter. The best part was this place is very dog friendly! We would recommend and likely stay again."
