Ashland's attractions concentrate on the Randolph-Macon campus, downtown Center Street and the surrounding Hanover County countryside. Randolph-Macon College sits at the center of town with its historic red-brick campus, the Peele Center for the Arts and public grounds open for walking. The Amtrak Ashland station on Center Street is one of the last in-town railroad stations in Virginia, with the CSX line running down the middle of the street — a Southeast rail-heritage highlight. Downtown Ashland's Center Street offers walkable restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques along the historic rail corridor. Kings Dominion theme park is about 15 minutes north in Doswell with roller coasters and Soak City water park. Hanover Tavern, a historic 18th-century stagecoach stop, hosts a theater season and country restaurant. Cold Harbor Battlefield and the surrounding Richmond National Battlefield Park sites are a short drive southeast. The Ashland Farmers Market runs Saturdays through the growing season. Ashland sits along I-95 at Exit 92 in Hanover County, about 15 miles north of downtown Richmond. Richmond International Airport (RIC) is about 30 minutes southeast; Washington Dulles is about 90 minutes north. Downtown Center Street is walkable end-to-end with the historic Amtrak station in the middle of town — one of few Virginia towns where you can arrive by train directly into the historic center. The Ashland Trolley Line trail follows the old streetcar route from Richmond north to Ashland for cyclists. Interstate 95 provides north-south access to Fredericksburg (~40 min north) and Richmond (~15 min south); US-1 runs parallel to I-95 through downtown; and Route 54 heads east toward Hanover and the Pamunkey River.
