What Guests Are Saying
“Our family of four stayed here for five days while in OBX. We had an efficiency (full kitchen and dining table) with two queen beds. We all thought the beds were super comfortable. The hotel is older but our room was clean. We loved the daily housekeeping. The property is right on the beach. We loved being able to walk out of our room and be on the beach in two minutes. We enjoyed watching the July 4th fireworks on the beach. They have an outdoor and indoor pool . Each morning, they have a free breakfast with a solid selection of choices (eggs, make-your-own waffles, bacon or sausage, muffins, pastries, bagels, toast, English muffins, fruit, cereals, and more. We ate here for 4 out of our 5 days. It was impressive to watch the staff keep the food replenished and area CLEAN! The staff was polite, friendly and helpful. The location is ideal to all the sights with a plenty of restaurants within a few minutes. My 9 year old and 13 year old gave it a thumbs up. I booked early and received a terrific rate. My wife and I agreed that we would stay here again if we visit OBX again.” — MileyandFofo, 5 stars
“We had a wonderful stay at Shutters on the Banks! The hotel was clean, comfortable, and in a perfect beachfront location. “Have been going to Shutters on the Banks for many years - even before they were called Shutters! This place use to be Colony IV by the Sea. We have only stayed in the Tower building so not sure about the rooms on the pool side. We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of June. The rooms are clean - I am the type of person that checks everything in the room after I check in, and uses my own sani wipes for the remote control, handles, etc. The room has a coffee station, microwave, and small refrigerator. Perfect for our two gallons of water. We had a room with two Queen Beds this time - room 227. This is on the second floor. There are stairs AND an elevator. The bathroom is small but very functional for two people. The Ac worked fine and was very cold when needed. The beds are another story though. My husband am I could not sleep in the same bed as the one closer to the balcony door literally had a deep indentation on one side. He wound up sleeping on that one and had a back ache every morning. The bed squeaked and made weird noises every time he turned/moved. The balcony had a view of the dunes and a sliver of the the ocean. We could also see people walking back and forth from the beach, passing the gazebo where there is an outside shower. The view, for me, was fine. I didn’t mind not seeing the ocean as we could hear it fine. The resort has a corn hole game set up which is fun. This time, we used the pool and hot tub and everything was great. There is an indoor and outdoor pool. They also provide towels at the pool. There is a restroom near the pool. The front desk folks were absolutely wonderful - great customer service and very attentive. The breakfast is the standard make your own waffles, eggs, bacon, bagels, muffins, yogurt, juices, and coffee (decaf and regular). This would have been a perfect trip except for the bed. I sent an email in response to the receipt that they sent me, but never heard back. I asked to speak with Ron, specifically (manager). I was hoping to talk to him before posting anything. Overall, a good place to stay but needs some minor updates. I would stay again but only in one of their king sized bed rooms. We have had these rooms in the past and the mattress’s have been excellent.” — Silva K., 4 stars

What guests are saying about Shutters On the Banks.
"We had a wonderful stay at Shutters on the Banks, even though the weather wasn’t ideal. The hotel is perfectly located right on the beach, protected by a dune. If you want an ocean view, be sure to book a room on the 3rd or 4th floor — those are labeled as “ocean view” on the reservation site. It’s just a few steps over the dune to the sand and surf. Our room was spacious, spotless, with a balcony overlooking the ocean, and equipped with modern amenities. Housekeeping came by daily, and the entire property felt very well maintained. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise with something for everyone: fresh fruit, waffles, instant oatmeal, hot eggs, bacon, sausage, muffins, bagels, bread, yogurt, milk, juices, coffee, tea, etc. The hot options vary each day, which keeps it interesting if you’re staying for a few mornings. The location is also ideal, with easy access to restaurants and shops throughout Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, and Kitty Hawk. Highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing, comfortable stay on the Outer Banks!"

View on Google"Our family stayed here for the 1st time this year as we normally will rent a house. They were able to get us rooms all side by side, the indoor & outdoor pool option was amazing for the kids especially with the mix of bad weather & tons of jelly fish we experienced while there. The rooms were very clean! The deluxe continental breakfast gave tons of options for everyone to find something they liked to eat & the staff were always very pleasant. Only issue we had while we loved the private wood sidewalk entrance to the beach was the showers coming off the beach did not have enough pressure to really wash yourself off very well (had to use shower by the pool) & the incline due to the dune made it hard for elderly to get over easily. Obviously we know that would take excavating to get the incline down so if you have elderly or handicapped may not be the best option to get to the beach. But we will definitely be back & loved our stay!"

View on Google"We spent two nights the day after Christmas and had a really nice visit. Very clean room with comfortable beds and accommodations. The shower had great water pressure . This is a pet peeve of mine especially after staying at Air B&B The private beach access was wonderful. Breakfast was plentiful and amazing. Great central location. The only downside is late check in 4:00 pm. They have a heated indoor pool and hot tub we did not have time to use. We plan to stay again ! Happy Customers Tim & Robin Adams"
