Hilton Garden Inn Shelton
"3.8-rated Hilton Garden Inn on Old Stratford Road near Route 8, with a pool, fitness center, and walk-in showers at $148/night."
About The Hotel
The Hilton Garden Inn Shelton offers a value option for travelers seeking central access to Stratford, Bridgeport, and Milford. With a 3.8 rating across 875 reviews, it scores well on cleanliness (4.3), location (4.3), and rooms (4.1), though recent reviews flag service inconsistencies and upkeep concerns. Walk-in showers are specifically praised by repeat guests. The property includes a pool, fitness center, bar, and pet-friendly rooms. Starting at $148 per night, it appeals to budget-conscious families and business travelers. However, 2025 reviews report service dishonesty, pool cleanliness complaints with floating debris, a tired hot tub, and maintenance lapses. The busy intersection location and inconsistent housekeeping attention detract from the value proposition.
What Guests Are Saying
“Found the need to stay in a place centrally located while visiting friends and family. The Hilton Garden Inn fit the bill as far as location is concerned. It is situated in a very busy intersection so be mindful of vehicles coming and going every which way. The lobby area is up to date and airy. There are seating areas where you can meet up for a cup of coffee or to check your ‘mail.’ The front desk people are friendly and efficient. Once on the floors and in the rooms, some major updating is desperately needed. Our room had new drapes but they weren’t ironed. Come on. Everything is clean enough but the carpets are thread bare and fraying. The bed is comfortable. There is a desk for any work needs as well as an arm chair with a side table. A small refrigerator, microwave and Keurig coffee maker are available in-room. We stayed three nights and our room was never freshened. I understand that times have changed but again… This hotel is best suitable for the business traveler who is looking for a place to sleep after a long day of dealing with corporate chaos while on travel or perhaps a couple like us who also just needed a place to stay after exploring the area and visiting with friends and family. There are no frills. You get what you pay for. Would I stay here again? Yes. But now I know what to expect.” — Racmos, 4 stars
“Overall, this property was acceptable but fell short of expectations for this brand hotel and one in this category and price range. Check-in was smooth, and the front desk staff was attentive upon arrival. However, after that initial interaction, most subsequent encounters with the front desk felt more like an inconvenience to staff than a guest service experience. In contrast, housekeeping and maintenance staff were consistently friendly and pleasant. The biggest issue was the condition of the room, which felt tired and in need of attention. There were several maintenance-related concerns that, while individually minor, collectively pointed to a lack of upkeep: The hot/cold handle in the shower was loose The toilet had a slow leak, causing it to run roughly every 20 minutes A dresser drawer would not stay closed Bathroom touch-ups (paint and caulking) appeared messy and amateur None of these issues were deal-breakers on their own, but together they detracted from the overall experience and suggested deferred maintenance. At checkout, I was told I could not receive a receipt because the booking was made through Southwest. While I understand third-party booking limitations, this was not explained in a helpful or customer-friendly way. Pricing was in line with comparable properties in the area (Hyatt, Marriott, etc.), which makes the condition of the room and the inconsistent service more noticeable. Bottom line: A decent stay, but this property needs better attention to maintenance and more consistent front desk service to justify its pricing and brand standards.” — Keith C., 3 stars
“Arrived on Sunday, August 3 when the front lobby smelled like pot. Also had to go out to the car to grab medication at 2 a.m. when I saw a pool door was wide open, which I hope no children wander over there unattended. At this time, when I came back into the hotel, the front desk clerk was locked out of a side door entrance where the small courtyard was located. I let him back in. Overall, the hotel stay was okay for the price.” — Seaside T., 2 stars

What guests are saying about Hilton Garden Inn Shelton.
"We've visited this location several times and have always had an excellent stay. It's situated right off Route 8, which is really convenient. The rooms we've had were always clean and nicely prepared when we arrived, and the bed and pillows are wonderful for getting a good night's sleep. There are plenty of eating spots around (Outback across the street, and Chick-fil-A, Dunkin and lots of others are around the corner and up the road a bit). Walmart was also close, which was a real blessing for getting bottled water and snacks for the room during our stay. The workout room was nice as well. Didn't use the pool so I can't comment on that. We truly love this location and will stay here whenever we are in the area and have need. Thank you to all of the staff for such an excellent stay!"

The only problem I had was controlling the heat in the room. I couldn't find a comfortable enough setting. But it didn't mess my experience up. There is a microwave and mini fridge which was great since I had take out and brought my own drinks. There are places to eat near by also. This was also a solo trip and I did feel safe. I would recommend staying here."
