About The Hotel

This 4-star Marriott sits directly adjacent to the Connecticut Convention Center on Columbus Boulevard, Hartford’s top-ranked downtown property by TripAdvisor rating. Upper-floor rooms offer river views across the Connecticut River. The property features a 4.5 cleanliness sub-rating, the highest downtown, along with a 4.4 location score and 4.4 service rating. Staff members including concierge Tina Fleming are named in positive reviews for exceptional accommodations. An indoor pool, fitness center, and spa amenities serve wellness-focused guests. Peak rates run $1,145 per night during convention weeks. Recent reviews note dated carpeted rooms, older furniture, and a pool area described as tired, offsetting the strong cleanliness score.

What Guests Are Saying

“Stayed here several times a year as our home office is located in Hartford. The property and staff were all top notch. 5/5 recommend. The staff and service really sets this property apart! I want to mention and specifically thank Tina Fleming for all of her help. She was exceptionally accommodating in getting us a corner suite and then equally responsive in taking care of an issue. Thank you! We visited in early February for work conference . Checkin was a breeze, and staff happily brought us extra towels, etc. Clean, spacious king corner room with concierge lounge access. Excellent location in close proximity to food and drink in the area. I also want to give a special thanks to the bartenders. They were kind and attentive. We will see you again!” — Stephen D., 5 stars

“Great location. You can walk to the amazing beautiful The Wadsworth Atheneum Art Museum, historic sites, shopping, and the convention center. IT IS SAFE to walk in the neighborhood. First of all the staff is super friendly and helpful. The room was basic but comfortable. I asked for a quiet room months before our trip and that is what we got. We’d gone for an event. The meeting rooms were extremely nice. The food at the banquet was extremely good. The bar and Starbucks were both nice with good service and food. BUT the restaurant was never open in the evening, and only for a short early early early morning time. Times were not posted. There aren’t many restaurants one can walk to (but we found a few good ones by the university).” — Juliette K., 4 stars

“I am surprised that there are so many rave reviews. This hotel certainly doesn’t deserve a bad review-but the rave reviews made me think we would have an entirely different experience. The rooms are quite dated, carpeted, old dressers and desks, old fashioned light switches (I haven’t seen those in a while!) and the lined shower tray in the shower that gets quite slipper. And the mattress is rock hard. I don’t quite know how they could make them that way-no give. The walls are also quite thin-any noise in the hallway feels like it is happening in your room. And it is the kind of place that is filled with people (parties, etc), who aren’t really going to concern themselves with your good night’s sleep. Lots of laughing, yelling, slamming doors all night. This hotel is also attached to a convention center. Before book, you might want to check what event is being held there. This weekend it was a massive dance competition. So the hotel was completely over run with girls under 12 in costumes and their moms. Obviously, they have every right to be there-but they made the bar unusable. Every seat, every barstool, was taken at lunch time by this crowd, and by the time we returned for a nightcap at 10pm, the bar and bar area was so filthy we decided to skip it. On a positive note, the staff everywhere was fantastic. Friendly, professional and efficient. We enjoyed the restaurant in the hotel for breakfast and when we did find space to have a late lunch at the bar, the food was very good.” — anontraveller68, 3 stars

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • 4.5 cleanliness sub-rating — the highest of the downtown cluster
  • Direct connection to the Connecticut Convention Center and walking distance to the Science Center
  • River views from upper floors (a 2025 reviewer mentioned a 16th-floor view paid for itself)
  • Staff repeatedly named in positive reviews (Tina Fleming on the concierge desk; 16th-floor team)

Cons:

  • Rooms are dated — multiple 2026 reviews call out carpeted floors, older furniture, and dressers needing refresh
  • The hot tub at the pool was described by one guest as a ‘metal old nasty looking tub’ — the pool itself looks tired
  • Peak-rate band runs to $1,145/night during convention weeks — value sub-rating sits at 3.95, the weakest of the downtown cluster

"Stayed at this Marriott a few weekends ago for one night. Check in and check out were both very easy. The front desk agents were friendly, helpful, and overall great to interact with. My biggest disappointment was that the pool was not in service. On the positive side, they gave me a nice room on the twentieth floor. The room was great and the bathroom was great as well. The gym could use some updates since it only had one mat and felt a bit dated. Parking was convenient. The garage is essentially connected and made it easy to get in and out by car. Overall it was a comfortable stay with a few things that could be improved to exceed expectations."

"The lobby's nice, parking's easy, and it's the best hotel if you're near the convention center. The breakfast is amazing, they'd get a perfect 5 if they hadn't gotten rid of the weekend lounge in the evening. I've never been to a Marriott that closed the evening lounge experience before this one. The rooms are nice, with a large smart TV, but suites weren't available, which was a bummer. If you're at the convention center, this is by far the best hotel, and the hospitality is great; overall, the entire staff does a great job."
