Days Drive / I-79 Flatwoods (350 Days Drive)

On 350 Days Drive directly off I-79 Flatwoods exit 67 in Sutton, Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Sutton Flatwoods (4.2, 1,138 reviews) is the town's only hot-tub-search hotel and a 4-star Wyndham Days Inn Suites with strong-across-the-board subratings: service 4.5 (top), cleanliness 4.4, location 4.4, sleep quality 4.3, rooms 4.2, value 4.2. Priced $112-$113 per night. Amenities include free parking, WiFi, fitness center, pool (indoor + outdoor), free breakfast, hiking access, offsite archery and children's television networks. Central WV's highest-review-count hot-tub-search hotel at 1,138 reviews. Currently in an active renovation phase - a recent 5-star review: 'A great experience with bears in the lobby! The hotel is undergoing renovation so the indoor pool is not open but the outdoor pool is. Our room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. The morning breakfast buffet was excellent and plentiful. The parking lot is lit very well.' A 3-star renovation-transparency review: 'This hotel is under a seriously needed renovation. While the pool was clean, the hallways had construction items and buckets to catch water leaking from the ceiling. The room had black mold around the AC unit and peeling.' A 2-star review reported 'facility was not clean and was very dated, musty odor, dried food on curtains.' Book expecting active renovation - outdoor pool open, indoor pool closed as of recent reviews. Directly off I-79 Flatwoods exit 67, Flatwoods Factory Outlets adjacent, downtown Sutton on the Elk River 5 minutes south, Sutton Lake 15 minutes east. Best for Sutton Lake fishermen and boaters, Elk River WMA hunters, I-79 corridor road-trippers halfway between Charleston and Bridgeport, Flatwoods Factory Outlet shoppers and family visitors.

Things to do in Sutton

Beyond the hotel room

Sutton Lake and Sutton Dam (about 15 minutes east of the Days Inn Suites) is the reason many overnight travelers pick Sutton - a 1,500-acre Elk River reservoir created by Sutton Dam and one of West Virginia's premier fishing lakes for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, muskellunge, crappie and catfish. The lake has boat ramps, marinas, camping and shoreline picnic areas. Sutton Dam is a Corps of Engineers project (completed 1961) that also provides flood control for the Kanawha basin. Spring and fall are the top bass-fishing seasons; summer brings recreational boating and family lake weeks.

Elk River Wildlife Management Area stretches along the Elk River corridor above Sutton Lake - large public-hunting land for deer, turkey, small game and waterfowl, plus stream fishing on the Elk River (blackfly-hatch brown trout in early summer). Historic downtown Sutton on the Elk River (about 5 minutes south) has a small Main Street district with restaurants, antique dealers and the Braxton County Historical Society Museum in a historic building.

Flatwoods Factory Outlet complex (immediately adjacent to the Days Inn Suites at I-79 exit 67) is a small regional outlet destination with big-box shopping and holiday sales that draws I-79 corridor stopover shoppers. Bulltown Historic Area (about 30 minutes north on the Little Kanawha) preserves Civil War entrenchments and pioneer-era village history.

Holly River State Park (about 1 hour east) offers hiking, cabins and one of the least-visited state parks with rugged terrain. Summersville Lake and Gauley River (about 1 hour south via US 19) opens to Gauley Season whitewater every September and October, and Summersville Lake is one of the state's largest clear-water lakes. Spring warms Sutton Lake fishing season and Elk River paddling, summer brings peak family lake and Elk River tubing, mid-October is peak central Appalachian foliage on I-79, and winter is quiet indoor-pool and business-travel weeks with Flatwoods Outlets holiday shopping.

For couples

Why a Sutton hot tub suite works for romance

For couples, the Days Inn Suites Sutton Flatwoods offers a solid mid-scale 4-star chain-hotel workhorse base rather than a marketed romance property - and the current active renovation phase means booking expecting construction. For a marketed Whirlpool Suite in the region drive about 90 minutes northwest on I-79 and Route 50 to Ellenboro's Sleep Inn Hwy 50 (property carousel confirmed Whirlpool Suite). For the WV heritage-luxury romance flagship drive about 3.5 hours southeast to White Sulphur Springs for The Greenbrier. For a private-cabin hot tub in New River Gorge country drive about 1.5 hours south to Hico's Country Road Cabins (4.8/232 confirmed private-cabin hot tub). Sutton's couples appeal is the Sutton Lake bass-fishing and Elk River outdoor setting rather than in-room amenities.

Many of the Sutton properties below offer extras on request — champagne service, rose-petal turn-down, or late check-out. Mention your occasion at booking; most front desks try to help.

Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Sutton

4.3·1,067 Google reviews

"AmaZing view if you are lucky enough to get a balcony in the North tower. There are not enough accessible rooms and none with a balcony. Breakfast was very good. Parts of nice hotel are darker and showing signs of wear but the location and staff are excellent."

— susie passanisi, 3 months ago · 4/5

"Clean rooms, cold AC, and fantastic water pressure. 24 hour coffee service and good hot breakfast. Rooms have balconies, although ours was missing chairs so we couldn't sit and enjoy the view. The decor is dated, and the hotel is in desperate need of updating, but all in all was a good stay and would definitely return."

Tub types, explained

What's the difference between a jacuzzi, whirlpool, and soaking tub?

Jacuzzi

Technically a brand name, but used generically for any jetted tub. In hotel listings, "jacuzzi suite" almost always means a private in-room tub with built-in air or water jets. Heat is usually preset; jets are user-controlled.

Whirlpool

Functionally identical to a jacuzzi — water jets circulate heated water for a massage effect. The term is more common at Marriott, Hilton, and Wyndham brands. Most "whirlpool suites" hold two adults comfortably.

Soaking tub

Deeper than a standard bathtub, usually 18–22 inches, but with no jets. Common in boutique and luxury hotels — quieter, more spa-like, and better for a long hot soak than the jet-driven hum of a jacuzzi.

Hot tub

In strict use, a standalone heated tub holding 100°F+ water. In hotel marketing, often used interchangeably with jacuzzi or whirlpool. A genuine in-room "hot tub" with full thermostat control is rare outside cabin-style resorts.

Every listing on this page specifies which type you'll find in the room. We list only properties with the tub in your room — not in a shared pool area or the lobby spa.

Why trust us

Hand-verified. No AI filler.

Every hotel on this page has been personally verified to have a private, in-room hot tub or jacuzzi — not a shared pool tub, not a bathroom soaker, not a spa amenity you have to book. We cross-check three sources for every listing: the hotel's own room photos and descriptions, recent guest reviews on TripAdvisor and Google, and direct confirmation from the hotel where unclear. We don't take payment for placement, and we don't generate listings with AI. If a hotel's tub status changes or a property closes, the page updates the next time we re-verify the city (Dothan was last checked May 2026).
