Chart House Inn
"4.2-rated 1880 Queen Anne inn with eight unique rooms, free breakfast, and bikes—one block off harbor action."
About The Hotel
The Chart House Inn is a 4.2-rated historic 1880 Queen Anne with eight unique rooms on a private, quiet street just one block from Thames Street’s energy. The nautical theme runs through the design, and rooms are individually appointed—meaning variety in size and layout. A full breakfast is included, and complimentary bikes let you explore without fighting parking later. The location is excellent: quiet and residential for sleeping, but a two-minute walk to restaurants, shops, and the harbor. Historic-building reality: some rooms have baths across the hall rather than en-suite, and you’ll want to confirm your room type for in-room tub access. It’s family-friendly in spirit, with owner hospitality that guests consistently praise.
What Guests Are Saying
“We had such an amazing stay at the Chart House in Newport, RI! From the moment we arrived, we knew we’d picked the right place—just steps from Main Street but still so peaceful and full of charm. The owner couldn’t have been nicer or more welcoming. She even gave us a token for a complimentary drink at one of the nearby sister restaurants, which was such a thoughtful surprise. Our room was spotless, cozy, and had everything we needed. And we absolutely loved meeting the resident dogs—they were so sweet and made the place feel even more like home. We spent some time relaxing in the lobby’s living room area, which was such a comfortable spot to unwind, with fresh water always available. We also ate several times at the on-site restaurant, and it quickly became one of our favorites—great food, great atmosphere, every single time. As a travel agent, I can honestly say this is one of the best places to stay in Newport. We’re already planning our next visit!” — Dan P., 5 stars
“We had the Ida Lewis Room which was awesome. Tons of light and space to enjoy our stay. The bed, pillows and sheets were very comfortable and great quality. The bathroom huge. Loved the decoration and attention to details. The location was perfect for us since it is in the middle of everything there is to see but yet in a quiet and lovely neighborhood with historical houses. Restaurants, bay, Thames Street, mansions and hikes are all at walking distance. Having your own parking space is also a plus. Would definitely stay here again!! Thank you Nicole for making our trip to Newport be unforgettable” — Natalia U., 5 stars
“What a great place. The rooms are large, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was fantastic. The staff are very friendly. The Inn is a very relaxing place to stay and I would highly recommend it. It also has individual parking spaces at the rear and is only steps away from the main street. I look forward to staying there in the future.” — Brian H., 5 stars

The breakfast each morning was amazing-the pastries were my favorite. Our room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Having parking was super helpful and allowed us easy access to drive to other places we wanted to visit. Would for sure stay here again!"

They even have well mannered puppy to love on. We booked the Jane Pickens room and it was plenty of room with a cute coffee nook. The house is well located and we were able to walk around to the main areas. Would stay here again when we come to Newport!"
