About The Hotel

The Admiral Fitzroy Inn anchors Lower Thames Street as a reliable 4.6-rated boutique inn where location and breakfast justify the stay. On Thames itself, the inn puts you in the thick of Newport’s waterfront—wharves, harbor cruises, and restaurants are steps away. Rooms vary in size and layout (a historic-building reality), and street-facing units catch some nightlife noise on weekends, but the included rooftop terrace, full breakfast buffet, and exceptional location value make this a smart choice for couples and friends who want to walk out the door into action. Free parking is a genuine bonus in the dense harbor district.

What Guests Are Saying

“We wanted to experience The Cliff Walk and Bowen’s Wharf and all the splendor of a Spring Weekend in Newport and we just knew that The Admiral Fitzroy Inn would be the perfect place to stay. The free parking, although the directions say to turn before their sign, it is still a little tricky, but the parking lot is ample and so very convenient to the Inn itself. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable for a great night sleep. The breakfast was just charming. Very well attended, the coffee was hot and delicious, and so many options to choose from in the brightly lit room. Should we ever find ourselves back in Newport, The Admiral Fitzroy Inn will be the first place I look at” — DianeP48, 5 stars

“Nice location on Thames, walking distance to many restaurants, shops and the harbor. Rooms are nice but need to renovate the carpeting and bathroom. Steet facing rooms are very noisy especially on weekend nights. Very friendly staff and good continetal breakfast.” — Craig D., 4 stars

“My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful visit to Newport while staying at the Admiral Fitzroy Inn. The Inn was immaculate, the front desk clerks were welcoming, kind and attentive. The room was just perfect, charming in every way. The included breakfast was delicious, the breakfast room pristine and the “breakfast lady” a warm and gracious hostess. Parking was free and the Inn is perfectly located. A true gem which we look forward to returning to. This is a very unequivocal and well-deserved 5 star review!” — Neal Y., 5 stars

"First time in Newport and took a chance on this B&B due to availability, price, and convenience. Will stay again! Pics are of the breakfast room and lobby lounge. Room 11 was as pictured on the site. Those looking for a hotel aesthetic should go to a hotel - this place is traditional B&B quirky. Free parking behind building! Very light continental breakfast of meat, cheese, parfait, fruit, and mini pastries (so those expecting a full cooked-to-order platter should go elsewhere…or go to a restaurant). Super central - everything within a 20 min walk radius btwn Long Wharf mall, Easton beach, white Horse Tavern, and even The Elms!! We did drive to all of the mansions (plenty of free parking), stopped by Castle Lighthouse, and took the Ocean Avenue scenic drive without traffic or parking issues when returning to the inn."

"Wow. This hotel in the heart of Newport took our vacation to the next level! Firstly, Jen the Manager took care of our one night reservation over the phone and made it so simple. Price, gave CC, confirmation arrived in email. Done! We even came into town a day early and they made accommodations for us. It was two separate rooms, which we didn't mind, we got to try both. They even moved our bags for us while we were out hiking the cliffs. Also a great parking lot in back for safely keeping your vehicle at NO extra charge. You don't get that at the big expensive chains. Secondly, the locations. Right in the heart of everything. We walked everywhere. To restaurants, the Cliffs, the wharf, restaurants, drug store & shopping. Speaking of shopping, our favorite retail store in the whole town was in the step down retail space of the hotel. The Anchored Artisan. Jeremy and Julie, the owners are a super couple. The epitome of small business owners working hard and doing good things. All of their items in the shop are hand crafted by either them or other local artists. Truly one-of-a-kind items. With enough notice Jeremy will even custom create license plate letter signs, leather wallets made from old baseball gloves, handmade candles etc. Or take your order and ship it to you. Great stuff. Also the Admiral has a fantastic breakfast every morning from 8am - 10am. Hot coffee and tea, fresh fruit, bagels toast, pastries, yogurt, cereal and much more. The building is secure after 9pm and only guests have keys to get in. Don't forget to go up to their great rooftop seating area to catch a sunset as well. This place has it all. Great competent and friendly staff. Whenever we go back to Newport we WILL ONLY stay at the Admiral Fitzroy."
