What Guests Are Saying

“We stayed at the Inn during a time of personal loss, which brought us to the area. It would be difficult to say how very gracious and kind Adele, the innkeeper was to us. The rooms are beautiful and immaculate: decorated perfectly to suit the original history but with very nice touches that are modern. Comfy robes are provided along with snacks and chocolates, along with special homemade treats in the evening. The breakfasts are mouthwatering and served in a thoughtful and elegant manner. Adele went out of her way to accommodate us and made a very difficult weekend much, much nicer. I highly recommend the Inn to anyone who wants to stay in a lovely place that has many amenities and truly delectable food, along with a gracious and helpful Innkeeper. We will be back!” — Katie R., 5 stars

“What a wonderful two nights! My best friend and I travelled to Canadaigua to see a concert. We stayed at this Bed and Breakfast and it was PERFECT. The breakfast was absolutely delicious (homemade) and the owner was so kind. Very relaxing, coffee was delicious and felt very personal. The decor is very charming and the location was 10 minute walk to town. We spent one afternoon at Willowbrook spa - which gives you access to the amenities at the Lakehouse. If you are looking for a home-like stay with personal touches but also want to relax at a pool/spa this is the perfect combination! Thank you Adele, we will be back!” — Ilene S., 5 stars

“An absolutely wonderful stay at 1840 Inn. The Inn and rooms are perfectly appointed and extremely comfortable. The breakfasts were superb. Adele is a perfect hostess, meeting our every wish including gluten free. The location is perfect to walk to the lake and to other sights. The rooms had everything you could think of you would need from beautiful linens to soaps and other amenities. The Inn was a wonderful place to relax with friends.” — 219fww, 5 stars

"The Inn was perfect for our getaway. The room we overnighted was perfect. The tub was an extra bonus. There are rooms to fit any need. The breakfast will not disappoint! I’d go back just for that! Eggs, omelette off the day, waffles, bacon, warm chocolate chip walnut bread and a roasted pear with dried apricot and a cardamom sauce. Simply delicious. I can’t say these options will be available on the day you stay but I am sure it will be delicious."

"Absolutely a 5-star experience at 1840 Inn on the Main in Canandaigua, NY! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the impeccable care and charm of this historic 1840-built Victorian home. The inn is beautifully maintained—lush green grounds, vibrant flower beds, and private, secure parking make for an elegant first impression. Adele, the innkeeper, is not only a gracious host but also an extraordinary chef and baker. Every breakfast was a gourmet delight, served fresh and full of flavor. Megan also went above and beyond—attentive, kind, and always keeping things spotless. Our suite was both luxurious and cozy, with a pristine bathroom, excellent water pressure, and wonderfully scented soaps that added a special touch. Everything from the bedding to the décor was tasteful and comfortable. Located just minutes from Canandaigua Lake and close to downtown shops, restaurants, and wineries, 1840 Inn on the Main is the perfect getaway to relax and rejuvenate. If you’re looking for an upscale, peaceful, and authentic Finger Lakes bed & breakfast experience, **this is it**. I highly recommend 1840 Inn on the Main to anyone seeking charm, comfort, and culinary excellence."
