Southernmost Beach Resort
"The 4.4 Southernmost Beach Resort — Key West's most-reviewed hotel (10,381) at Duval south end with candid sargassum flags."
About The Hotel
Southernmost Beach Resort is a 4.4-rated (10,381 reviews) Key West’s most-reviewed hotel by a wide margin at 1319 Duval Street — the Duval-south-end oceanfront resort with beach, three pools, restaurants, bar/lounge, bike rental and kids-activities. Subratings: 4.7 cleanliness, 4.8 location, 4.5 rooms, 4.5 service and sleep, value 4.1. Recent 5-stars praise ‘Constantine and Shana were AMAZING — best drinks on the island,’ and ‘frozen cocktails and really nice bartenders — within walking distance of the southernmost point with a beach out back.’ CANDID FLAGS run heavy in recent 2-stars: ‘seaweed closed the beach and they didn’t tell us until check-in — 12 other people checking in 2 days later’; ‘resort? More like a motel 6 parking lots everywhere, smells disgusting because sargassum, rooms small dated’; ‘resort looks run down — at least honest about the sargassum stink.’ Full-service resort with the caveat that sargassum-seaweed periods can close the beach — set expectations by season.

”⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I booked the Pineapple Pool Cabana through ResortPass while visiting Key West on July 15, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! For $180 total (including taxes, fees, and service charges), my cruise friend and I had a private cabana for two, and it was an incredible value. The resort was about a 25-minute walk from the cruise port, directly across from the Butterfly Conservatory and just steps from the famous Southernmost Point Buoy, making it a perfect location for spending the day. The resort itself was beautiful, clean, and very well maintained. Our cabana was comfortable and relaxing, but what truly made the experience exceptional was our cabana attendant, Sharla. She also tended the bar, and she was absolutely phenomenal. She greeted us right away with a bucket of ice stocked with bottled Evian and San Pellegrino water, then shortly afterward brought out the complimentary bottle of champagne that came with the cabana. She even offered us fresh-squeezed orange juice and fresh-squeezed pineapple juice so we could make our own mimosas. The fresh fruit platter was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. The mango, both pink and yellow dragon fruit, strawberries, blueberries, and even the cantaloupe were incredibly fresh and delicious. I don’t normally even like cantaloupe, but I couldn’t stop eating it! What really impressed me was Sharla’s attentiveness. My friend and I had just commented that the only thing that could make the cabana even better would be a fan. We hadn’t mentioned it to anyone, and within minutes Sharla appeared with a standing fan, plugged it in, and aimed it right at our cabana. It felt like she was reading our minds! Her service was warm, thoughtful, and genuinely outstanding from start to finish. As an extra surprise, another bartender came around offering complimentary Bahama Mamas for about 15 minutes, which was such a fun touch. The Pineapple Pool had a relaxing, laid-back atmosphere that was exactly what we were hoping for. We also checked out the Tranquility Pool and the Beach Pool. The beach area was unfortunately dealing with the sargassum seaweed that’s currently affecting parts of Key West, so it had the typical odor that comes with that, but that’s completely outside the resort’s control. Choosing the Pineapple Pool was definitely the right decision. I enjoyed this experience so much that it’s one of the main reasons I want to return to Key West for a longer vacation, and when I do, I’ll absolutely be staying at the Southernmost Beach Resort. Thank you to the entire team for such a wonderful day, and especially to Sharla for providing some of the best hospitality I’ve experienced anywhere. She truly made an already great day unforgettable.” — Amanda W., 5 stars
“My husband and I recently returned to the Southernmost Beach Resort for our Baby Moon. We got married at the resort in 2014 and wanted to make our Baby Moon special by returning to celebrate where it all began. The stay couldn’t have been better. Every step along the way from check-in to check-out was smooth. We were offered a complimentary bottle of wine (for my husband), and the highlight of the trip was to walk to our assigned room, which was an upgraded balcony king for our special occasion. We understand that Meghan prompted this accommodation and we could not have been more grateful! After having celebrated our wedding at the resort, having returned several times since, and to now, be returning for our Baby Moon, Meghan ensured that we felt very special with this gesture. The room was clean, comfortable, and beautiful! We also returned to the Southernmost Beach Cafe, where bartenders Saunders and Djoina were wonderful, as always. It was so nice to see them again. They made delicious mocktails for me, and their friendly, positive demeanors always add to the atmosphere. Overall, we would like to specifically thank Meghan, Saunders, and Djoina for their gracious hospitality, and for the rest of the Southermost staff for making our special occasion truly magical! Thank you so much, and we plan on returning for years to come! :-)” — Voyage168708, 5 stars
“This was my fourth time visiting the resort in 10 years. Every time I visit, the resort has been improved and is always clean and welcoming, and the staff are among the friendliest I’ve met. My excellent Ocean Front Balcony Room was upgraded to a penthouse-level mini-suite with unparalleled views of the water, and the amenities in the room were luxurious. The location is unbeatable as being located directly on the water with uninterrupted views. Same goes for the Southernmost Beach Cafe with excellent service, menu options, and value for the price. Special thanks to Diane C at the Cafe during the dinner hours! The atmosphere at the pools and bars is also phenomenal, with just the right amount of activity and volume to give a tropical vacation ambience. Special thanks to Sharla S at the Shores Pool Bar for being super attentive and providing excellent service - made the time spent at the resort unforgettable. I will definitely return to the resort, hopefully sooner than later!” — Mark M., 5 stars

The resort is family-friendly but also has adults-only areas, which is a nice balance. The onsite café and coffee shop are super convenient. If you want a quieter stay, request an oceanfront sunset view farther from the pool—it makes a difference. I’ve stayed in both oceanfront and interior rooms, and the interior rooms are very tropical and cozy as well. One thing to note: there’s no elevator, so keep that in mind if you’re on the second floor. The concierge is helpful, and you can rent bikes or golf carts onsite, which is a great way to get around Key West—just be mindful of parking since tickets happen quickly. Overall, a really enjoyable and well-located resort."

Latoya checked us in and could not have been more patient and friendly. My husband and I were in a partial ocean view room, and being new guests, we were not sure of the building layout as the hotel spans across a few blocks. Staff escorted us by golf cart and helped us get our bags to our room. The room itself was lovely. It was modernized, clean, and the scenery definitely was impressive for a partial view. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning well-functioning, and there was a mini fridge for extra drinks and snacks. The balcony was also a nice addition to the week. We were in a corner unit with minimal noise heard from neighboring rooms and housekeeping. Only a few minor cons to note: - The televisions had no channel information or even paper guide to show what you’re watching. This was consistent among all three of our rooms. Not a big deal as WiFi was decent and we weren’t there much outside of sleeping. - Our room did have some ants, though not to a point of infestation. I expect this to some extent in Florida, but it may bother others more. - The restaurant was hit or miss. Our dinner the first night was delicious and the server was excellent. The next day at breakfast was not the same experience. The food is tasty (I recommend the salmon with bagel). But our server accidentally lost our bill after payment, meaning we had been charged but no card or receipt returned. I was able to lock the card and thankfully staff located it shortly after. Still, this resulted in a slightly late start to our activities that day, and it’s a bit unsettling not knowing who had our card number. - The showers in all three rooms were aesthetically pleasing, but functionally minimal. Thick hair beware; it was not easy to shampoo thoroughly. That said, low water pressure is not uncommon in Key West in efforts to preserve resources. Biggest pros: - A clean beach and pool areas. Staff did a great job keeping these populated areas in good condition. - The lobby and lobby staff. They were quite attentive to us each time we were there, ensuring we got to our Lyfts and assisting us with bags. They also securely stored our luggage after checkout prior to our departure. The complimentary flavored water was a lovely perk, too. - The Shores pool bar. The bartenders were fantastic. We went to many venues during our stay, but continued to enjoy the Shores key lime drinks over several others. Overall, Southernmost was a great hotel with all the amenities and services one could want in a tropical stay. We look forward to visiting again."
