A CANDID 2-star flags Airbnb-style operations: “The Poppy is super charming and in a great neighborhood. Having said that it is more Airbnb than hotel. I arrived at 6pm to check in and was left an envelope taped to the door with instructions on a code I could use by s[elf-check-in].” Best for anniversary-couples looking for the strongest confirmed in-room-whirlpool signal in DC, small-scale townhouse boutique stays and self-check-in-comfortable travelers.

What Guests Are Saying

“We traveled to the Georgetown area to visit family. Looked for a place that was close to their home and found The Poppy in Georgetown. Before booking we spoke with the staff about the locations accommodations for guest with mobility issues. we were trying to avoid too many stair’s. They suggested room 5 as it is located on the same level as the entrance with the only steps were at the main entrance. Upon arrival we made our way to our room and it was perfect. It was as we had been advised and reminded us of a bedroom in a home instead of just another hotel room. The room was very large had an electric fireplace, large screen tv, a desk and a mini fridge which is a good thing when traveling with insulin. It had an oversize bathroom that with an oversized shower that I believe would accommodate a wheelchair. The entrance to the shower appeared to be a roll in type. They offered a continental breakfast each morning with a very nice selection of pastries, breads, meat and cheese, fresh fruit, large selection of cereal, milk, coffee, and juices. One word of caution is that Room 5 shares a common wall with the parlor area at breakfast time you can hear some of the goings on in the parlor. The surrounding area has a sandwich shop deli, across the street is a market, near by there are numerous good dining place less than a mile away. I never felt unsafe when I walked about the area. The staff was very nice. We have already decided that upon our return to the DC area we are going to try to rebook here first. The last two words of the name of this location Guest House really says it all. We really felt as though we were guests in someone’s home.” — Gasper M., 5 stars

“We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Poppy Georgetown! From the moment we arrived, it felt less like checking into a hotel and more like being welcomed into a beautiful, elegant home. The property itself is stunning—full of charm, character, and thoughtful details that make the entire experience feel special. The rooms were incredibly comfortable, beautifully decorated, and spotlessly clean. Every space in the hotel feels cozy yet refined, with little touches that show how much care goes into creating a great guest experience. It’s the perfect blend of historic Georgetown charm and modern comfort. What truly made our stay stand out was the hospitality—especially John. He was incredibly attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. John went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and took the time to make us feel right at home. It’s rare to find that level of personal care, and it made our stay even more memorable. The location is also fantastic—quiet and peaceful while still being an easy walk to Georgetown’s shops, restaurants, and historic spots. It’s the perfect home base for exploring Washington, DC. If you’re looking for a unique, relaxing, and truly special place to stay in Georgetown, The Poppy is it. We can’t wait to come back!” — Brandy B., 5 stars

“My husband and I enjoyed a 4 night stay in late March. What a fabulous boutique hotel in the most charming neighborhood! Thank you to Riley (sorry for any misspelling) who assisted me in adding an extra night to our reservation, she is so kind. We appreciated the text information regarding the after hours check in. Our room was very comfortable and clean. For my husband and I, it was a great space to sleep at night and we loved being able to open the windows for fresh air, especially during a rainstorm. We could not hear any other guests so we slept very well. It felt like we were staying in the home of fabulous hosts. The common area is clean and space is plentiful. Having snacks at all times was great; water, juices, tea, coffee, cereal, fruit, and baked goods. We loved the location and enjoyed our daily walks to DC, and all around Georgetown. We will definitely return to this hotel when we return to DC. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so enjoyable and COZY!” — dinameri, 5 stars

"We were at the Poppy last weekend. The accommodations were suitable and the staff and proprietors were agreeable and helpful. Even though it is a small hotel, it has a serviceable lobby/common area where we enjoyed talking with my brother and his wife over drinks and had breakfast the next morning. As for location, the Poppy is in very walkable proximity to Embassy Row, aka Massachusetts Avenue, and to Dumbarton Oaks, one of Washington’s hidden gems. We would enjoy staying there in the future."

"Stayed 4 nights at this beautiful hotel and couldn't have made a better choice - would definitely stay again. I'd describe it as a small hotel with quaint B&B vibes. The room was a better than average hotel room - practical but classy - but the common areas are what make it most special: the great patio in the front (perfect breakfast spot) and the beautiful patio and gardens in the back (for the evening wind down) - and even the lobby/kitchen area is cute and home-y. The design and decor is all on point and impressively, doesn't sacrifice practicality at all. Would definitely recommend for couples and friends groups especially."

"Charm. Decor. Location. Comfort. Service. Affordability. Vibes. All 10/10. Absolutely adored this place and immediately felt at home. If you want a boutique hotel crossed with a B&B experience in Georgetown but still “off the beaten path”, look no further. This 👏🏻 is 👏🏻 your 👏🏻 place!!! As a professional traveler who works in the travel industry and travels A LOT, I can definitely say this is one of the best hotels that I have ever visited. Can’t wait to come back soon."
