About The Hotel

A 4.0-rated (138 reviews — one of the smaller samples in the DC set) 4-star Kimpton Banneker Hotel by IHG at 1315 16th St NW — a Kimpton-brand boutique on 16th Street NW named for Benjamin Banneker. Subratings 3.8-4.5 with location 4.5, cleanliness 4.3, rooms 4.2, service 4.0, sleep quality 3.9 (softest) and value 3.8 (softest). Amenities include valet parking, free WiFi, fitness center, bar/lounge, bicycles available, kids-stay-free, kids TV and pet-friendly. Legacy Hot Tub Hotels frontmatter markets in-room jacuzzi suites; TripAdvisor amenity listings do not confirm in-room whirlpools — verify at booking. Recent 5-star reviews highlight the complimentary evening cocktail hour (“There is also a happy hour with free wine and cocktails”), IHG-Platinum welcome amenity ($15 drink coupon), and suite quality. A CANDID 4-star flags 16th Street noise specifically: “Beware any room facing 16th street. The noise from 4AM on is terrible! Stay in the back.” A 4-star repeat-Kimpton-guest disappointment: “A Kimpton Hotel that could be much better.” Best for IHG One Rewards Kimpton-loyalists who specifically request back-facing rooms and accept the small-sample-size 138-review caveat. Named for Benjamin Banneker, the free-Black mathematician and surveyor who helped plan the original street grid of Washington DC in 1791. Located on 16th Street NW five blocks north of the White House, walkable to McPherson Square Metro and the K Street lobbying corridor. Complimentary evening wine reception and IHG One Rewards Kimpton points at boutique rates. Best for IHG-loyalist Kimpton fans who specifically request a back-facing room to avoid the flagged 16th Street 4am traffic noise.

What Guests Are Saying

“My husband and I stayed here for the July 4th weekend. Chanel at the front desk was wonderful. She helped us get the room that best met our needs. We appreciated their support for our military and families. She demonstrated great customer service and made us feel so welcomed and at home. The rooms were extremely clean and well appointed…even a nail file in the toiletries provided. The hotel was withing walking distance of a Whole Foods and restaurants. A great outdoor seating area in the front of the hotel was pleasant in the evenings. Happy hour from 5-6 was a nice time to relax and recount the day’s adventure. The food at the restaurant in the hotel was wonderful. Highly recommend the hotel. Call to confirm parking prices and other amenity costs that may not be clear before booking. We would definitely stay at the Kimpton again. Thank you Joseph and Oscar in the restaurant for being such great hosts too!” — Pam N., 5 stars

“Very friendly staff, great welcome amenity, breakfast was very good, easy to get around to everything we wanted to see. The suite they gave us was fantastic! Social hour was excellent, and they had coffee out bright and early in the lobby. Would highly recommend for anyone staying in DC. Could not have been happier with the stay. They do place ear plugs by the bed, on 1 side of the hotel there is a somewhat busy street, but did not bother us too much at night. If you go, don’t bother to get uber from DCA, just take the Metro, very easy and inexpensive. The Diamond Elite breakfast was very good also” — rageisman, 5 stars

“For those who loved the Kimpton brand before it was bought by IHG, this property still has the old school Kimpton vibe with the great service, decor, and upkeep I always appreciated. Rooms are big, clean, stylish, and comfortable. Front desk and Le Sel staff are perfect - super friendly and giving great guest experience. Minor complaint that the elevators are painfully slow. The meeting catering is mediocre for vegetarian/vegan options. I suggest the culinary team get more creative in that aspect.” — katg9288, 5 stars

"During my recent stay at the Kimpton, I was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional service at the front desk, especially from Fountain and Tiffany. From the moment I arrived, they were warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive to every detail of my experience. Their professionalism was matched only by their kindness, making check‑in smooth and every interaction afterward feel personal and sincere. Both Fountain and Tiffany went above and beyond to ensure I had everything I needed, offering thoughtful recommendations and checking in to see how my stay was going. Their positive energy set the tone for the entire visit and truly elevated my impression of the hotel. Because of their phenomenal service, I will not only remember this stay fondly, but I will also be recommending this Kimpton location to friends, family, and colleagues. They are a credit to the property and outstanding examples of what great hospitality looks like."

"This hotel pleasantly surprised me in the most wonderful way—I’m absolutely delighted. I chose it for our family vacation mainly because of its location, but it exceeded my expectations in every way. What I loved most is that it’s a small hotel, which I truly appreciated. The rooms are very spacious; I stayed in a double room and was genuinely impressed by how large it was and by the beautiful view. The cleanliness is impeccable. The service was outstanding, especially from the ladies at the front desk. Everything is within walking distance along a lovely promenade. I would definitely stay here again every time."

"Our stay was amazing, staff was friendly, any accommodations that we needed were handled in a timely fashion and the rooms were way more spacious than we thought they would be. The only thing is the lighting in the room gives very dim, very sexy (just an honorable mention). Other than that would highly recommend!"
