Fairfield Inn & Suites Wilmington New Castle
"A 3.7/143 3-star Fairfield by Marriott with indoor pool 5 min to New Castle Historic District (candid bed-bug and mid-renovation flags)."
About The Hotel
The Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Wilmington/New Castle is a 3-star Marriott at 2117 North DuPont Highway in New Castle, DE about 5 minutes north of the Colonial-era Historic District and Battery Park on the Delaware River. Rated 3.7 across 143 reviews with subratings — cleanliness 4.5 (strongest, genuine strength), rooms 4.0, sleep quality 4.0, location 4.1, service 3.7 and value 3.3 (weakest). Amenities include free parking, free WiFi, free breakfast, indoor pool, fitness center with gym, kid-friendly amenities, business center with internet access and meeting rooms. Room rate typically runs $106-$145 per night. Location: about 5 minutes south to the New Castle Historic District (the Green, the Court House Museum, Amstel House, Read House and Battery Park), 5 minutes west to Wilmington/New Castle Airport (ILG), 10 minutes north to Delaware Park casino, 15 minutes north to Wilmington Riverfront and Frawley Stadium for Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball, 15 minutes south to Christiana Mall and 20-25 minutes north to the Brandywine du Pont estates. Recent guest voice runs heavy on candid flags: a 1-star bed-bug complaint with kids bitten (‘Our stay at this Fairfield Marriott was absolutely unacceptable… We encountered bed bugs in our room, and multiple children were bitten. We were forced to move rooms’); a 2-star mid-renovation not disclosed at booking (‘being significantly renovated (which is badly needed at this aging hotel) but you will not find this noted on Bonvoy when you’re booking a room’); a 2-star breakfast-shortfall (‘breakfast was until 930 we came down at 9 there was no milk creamers or tea bags’); a 1-star AC-malfunction and breakfast complaint. Balanced against the 4.5 cleanliness subrating average. No in-room jacuzzi advertised — indoor pool only. Best for Colonial-Delaware historic-district day-trippers, Wilmington/New Castle Airport (ILG) travelers, Wilmington-metro business overflow and A Day in Old New Castle May-event visitors wanting a mid-range Marriott indoor-pool base — with the honest recommendation to inspect on arrival and confirm current renovation status at booking.
What Guests Are Saying
“My husband is a reward member with Hilton and we had a very frustrating experience because their website was down and were told to call their help line and ended up with a representative who was awful and couldn’t get dates or locations correct. We ended up booking here instead. Expedia booked us wrong and the woman at the front desk who was on around 7:00 pm was so wonderful in helping to cancel our incorrect reservations and rebooking us correctly for August 24th. She was patient, helpful and has outstanding customer service skills. As a result, we are now reward members with Marriot and will consider using them instead of Hilton. Our room was clean, quiet and the breakfast was quite good. She went out of her way to help after a frustrating day with Hilton and Expedia. Excellent staff and a good experience. Also, Fairfield Inns don’t allow dogs and while we love dogs, we prefer not to have them where we stay. It is a bonus incentive to stay here.” — cindy D., 5 stars
“I had another excellent stay at this hotel. David at the front desk was very helpful and pleasant. I’ve stayed here a coupIe of times already. The rooms are always clean and spacious. The front side of the hotel facing the highway can be a bit noisy but the rear faces a church and it is very quiet. I will be back! Thanks David.” — Nomad06625122708, 5 stars
“I need to give a shout out to David, the front desk manager. He is so personable and friendly. He made us feel welcome. We were upgraded to a suite because of our Bonvoy status. Great place to stay if you have business in Wilmington or are flying out of the New Castle Airport. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the shower needed a deep cleaning.” — jeanne C., 4 stars

View on Google"Good solid 4 of 5 stars. My travel preferences request a high floor, which wasn't accommodated even after requested. I was there for 3 nights, and I'm sure they weren't even half full based on cars. Despite this, service was friendly and efficient. Room was perfectly adequate. Shower had standing water due to floor not draining, but slept well."
