Best areas in Staunton for a hot tub stay

Not every area in Staunton hits the same vibe. Here's where each verified property actually sits, and what each pocket feels like at night.

The Historic Western State Hospital Campus

On Greenville Avenue on the historic Western State Hospital campus with Thomas Jefferson-designed grounds, the Blackburn Inn and Conference Center is Staunton's marquee historic-boutique stay — a beautifully renovated 1828 building with mixed old-and-new design, a bar, patio, fitness center, walking tours across the campus grounds and conference facilities. Subratings run 4.2–4.7 with location (4.7) and cleanliness (4.6) the strongest. Best for Shakespeare-Center visitors and Shenandoah Valley historic-hotel character-seekers.

Things to do in Staunton

Beyond the hotel room

Staunton's attractions concentrate on Shakespeare, the Frontier Culture Museum and the downtown Beverley Historic District. The American Shakespeare Center's Blackfriars Playhouse is the only re-creation of Shakespeare's original indoor theatre in the world — year-round Shakespeare-and-classical performances. The Frontier Culture Museum is an outdoor living-history museum with English, German, Irish, West African and American Frontier working farms. The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum occupies Wilson's birthplace with restored 1856 Manse. Downtown Staunton's Beverley Historic District is a walkable area of 19th-century storefronts, restaurants, gastropubs and the Wharf market. The Camera Heritage Museum displays over 6,000 vintage cameras. Sunspots Studios hosts live glassblowing demonstrations. Gypsy Hill Park offers a scenic drive with a lake and playing fields. The Staunton Farmers Market at the Wharf runs Saturdays through the season. Spring wildflowers, summer Shakespeare season, fall Shenandoah foliage and winter Blackfriars indoor season all shape the year.

There is more within easy reach: The historic Western State Hospital campus. Seasonal highlights include American Shakespeare Center performances (year-round), The Staunton Music Festival (August), Queen City Mischief and Magic (September). Staunton rewards visits in every season, from green-season hiking and water days to brilliant autumn foliage and quiet, snow-dusted winters. And because Staunton sits within easy reach of Charlottesville, Waynesboro, Lexington, it works well as a base for wider day trips across the region.

For couples

Why a Staunton hot tub suite works for romance

Staunton's Blackburn Inn is the town's romance-and-Shakespeare-weekend option — a historic-boutique inn on a Thomas Jefferson-designed campus with walking tours, a bar and patio and downtown Blackfriars performances a short drive away. Not an in-room jacuzzi property, but couples wanting a Shenandoah Valley in-cottage hot tub soak should drive 15 minutes east to Waynesboro's Iris Inn Deep Woods Cottage — the same-valley marquee for private soaks. For dinner, the downtown Beverley Historic District's gastropubs and restaurants are five minutes away.

Many of the Staunton properties below offer extras on request — champagne service, rose-petal turn-down, or late check-out. Mention your occasion at booking; most front desks try to help.

Tub types, explained

What's the difference between a jacuzzi, whirlpool, and soaking tub?

Jacuzzi

Technically a brand name, but used generically for any jetted tub. In hotel listings, "jacuzzi suite" almost always means a private in-room tub with built-in air or water jets. Heat is usually preset; jets are user-controlled.

Whirlpool

Functionally identical to a jacuzzi — water jets circulate heated water for a massage effect. The term is more common at Marriott, Hilton, and Wyndham brands. Most "whirlpool suites" hold two adults comfortably.

Soaking tub

Deeper than a standard bathtub, usually 18–22 inches, but with no jets. Common in boutique and luxury hotels — quieter, more spa-like, and better for a long hot soak than the jet-driven hum of a jacuzzi.

Hot tub

In strict use, a standalone heated tub holding 100°F+ water. In hotel marketing, often used interchangeably with jacuzzi or whirlpool. A genuine in-room "hot tub" with full thermostat control is rare outside cabin-style resorts.

Every listing on this page specifies which type you'll find in the room. We list only properties with the tub in your room — not in a shared pool area or the lobby spa.

Why trust us

Hand-verified. No AI filler.

Every hotel on this page has been personally verified to have a private, in-room hot tub or jacuzzi — not a shared pool tub, not a bathroom soaker, not a spa amenity you have to book. We cross-check three sources for every listing: the hotel's own room photos and descriptions, recent guest reviews on TripAdvisor and Google, and direct confirmation from the hotel where unclear. We don't take payment for placement, and we don't generate listings with AI. If a hotel's tub status changes or a property closes, the page updates the next time we re-verify the city (Dothan was last checked May 2026).
