von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort
"Iconic von Trapp estate with Austrian charm, an on-site brewery, Nordic trails, and mountain-meadow views—but hot tubs are shared resort amenities, not in-room."
About The Hotel
From $278/night — the famous Sound of Music mountain estate. The von Trapp Family Lodge (4.3 rating, 3,700+ reviews) occupies 2,500 acres of the family’s original property, and staying here means immersion in authentic Austrian charm and von Trapp history. You’ll find an on-site brewery and Bierhall, multiple restaurants, a famous breakfast buffet, and a calendar packed with activities from Nordic trails to guided hikes to history tours. Rooms are spacious and home-like with strong cleanliness (4.6) and location scores (4.8), and the mountain-meadow views are sweeping. Be aware: while the resort has pools and fitness amenities, hot tubs are shared resort facilities, not in-room features. Premium pricing (value score 4.1) reflects the iconic location and breadth of activities rather than a luxury bedroom experience. Best for couples and families drawn to the history, the alpine setting, the brewery, and extensive on-property activities.
What Guests Are Saying
“While I missed maple sugar season by a few weeks, I still had a fantastic time visiting the lodge and resort during the early spring. The atmosphere was like nothing I’ve experienced before, it felt like I’d left the states and was visiting the Alps. The room was spacious and clean. Every interaction with the staff was pleasant; they were friendly and effective. The tours were more fun than I expected, with lots of entertaining bits of trivia about maple syruping, beer and the brewery, or the von Trapp family history. I highly recommend this resort whether or not you are a fan of The Sound of Music as there are plenty of activities and amenities to keep you entertained during any season.” — Daniel C., 5 stars
“The multiple eating options within the resort made for a relaxing stay. The fact that as much of the ingredients of their food as possible is locally grown on site makes for very tasty meals. The breakfast was very elevated — I didn’t know that eggs could be so amazing. The activities were both entertaining and educational. The people leading the activities have years of experience in what they are teaching you about. Because Vermont is relatively small we could get to any part of the state in an easy day trip from the Trapp Family Lodge. We found a number of interesting glass artists and their stores relatively close by. All of the halls have historic photos about the Trapp Family. We were captivated as we walked around and looked at all of them.” — snowmanwander, 5 stars
“Great experience for an anniversary trip. We loved the rooms and amenities, including a number of on-site activities. We had last visited in 1984, when we got to meet Maria von Trapp a few years before she passed away. I had lived in Austria as a student and found that the tradition of hospitality there was embodied in the Trapp Family’s Lodge.” — Kent J., 5 stars

View on Google"Our family of four (two adults and two kids - ages 7&9) visited Vermont for the first time and stayed at the Von Trapp Family Lodge and it was absolutely amazing! Breakfast each morning at the buffet was exactly what we needed before a day spent skiing. The staff were extraordinarily friendly and helpful. We were delighted to find fires lit in the Game Room and Family Room where we spent lots of time each evening playing checkers and Clue. We were equally surprised and excited to have cookies and tea each afternoon in the Lounge. The lodge itself felt like staying in someone’s home. Super cozy. The views couldn’t be better. We got to meet the cows on a tour with Poach and it was awesome! If we could have stayed longer, we absolutely would have and we already can’t wait to come back and do all the things we didn’t get to on this trip! I couldn’t recommend it more highly."

View on Google"While we didn’t stay overnight at the lodge, we spent the day there with a $32 day pass for both of us, which was definitely worth it. The area is stunning, featuring numerous hiking trails to explore. There are also tickets available for guided tours around the property. The site offers a rich sense of history, culture, and significance, alongside its beauty. Next time we're in the area, we'll be sure to stay at the lodge."
