This design-forward lodge sits on the Mountain Road with an on-site Après Only lounge hosting top live music until around 11:30 p.m. Guests rave about the hip common areas, the music lineup, and the value—a pool, hot tub, fireplace suites, and free breakfast. But thin walls and doors mean lounge music and neighbor noise carry to rooms; it’s a trade-off you’ll hear mentioned repeatedly. Best for couples and travelers who enjoy live music or can sleep through it, and who want an affordable base a walk from the village. Early-bed skiers should look elsewhere.

“This was our second stay at the Field Guide Lodge, and we are planning to return in March. We travel there specifically because we are attending concerts in Apres Only, their lounge. For anyone doing that, snagging a room at this lodging allows you to park your car and leave aside all worries about driving anywhere after the show, alcohol or not. The rooms we have stayed in are relatively compact (especially the bathrooms) but fully serviceable, very cozy and clean. They give you a sweet bag of locally sourced treats to kick off your stay. The bar has full service and some “lodge” type food; the morning breakfast varies and is included. If you don’t like that day’s offering, there are plenty of other local options! If you are not coming here for the music, then beware that you will likely hear it anyway, but it’s over by about 11:30. IF you like music, though, they get some top notch acts! For us, seeing a band like Guster or a performer like Chad Stokes in a room of only about 200 is an enormous treat at an extremely reasonable price. Plus, when you check in, you park your car right up front and never have to look for other parking! We’ve stayed in the king rooms, and for our next stay, we’ve upgraded to a room with a sitting area. Each room is different (the website says that!) so your room may not look exactly as pictured! “We had a nice King suite in one of the lodges outback which met almost all of our needs. Unfortunately, the Internet was down when we were there so hard to do any work or stream a movie at the end of the day. The reception area at the main lodge was nice, a little quirky with a orangy 70’s vibe. Lots of seating areas and nooks to escape to. The desk was not manned very often or hardly at all. The bar was OK. The inclusive breakfast in the morning was good the first morning (yogurt, fruit salad, berry scones) but we completely passed on the second morning, which was salmon, cream cheese, oatmeal, and big squares of some sort of bread, and the fruit salad. It was a short doable walk to town. The bed was super comfy, as well as the blankets and the pillows. The room was clean, we had a gas fireplace and a deck. It was very light and airy. “We stayed at a suite on the second floor with a view of the pool and some trees that had changed colors, though the pool was empty. The sitting area was spacious with a fireplace and balcony. Beautiful decor. The bedroom was funky as the tv was behind the door and prevented opening all the way. Bathroom and tub was great but shower was too small and had curtains ☹️. We ran out of Kleenex and the teapot didn’t work. Breakfast was really good and great choices like chia seed pudding! Great location and walking distance to downtown.” — souri A., 4 stars
