What Guests Are Saying

“Swift House Inn is my go-to escape in Vermont. I’ve stayed in both summer and winter, enjoying elegant rooms with balconies, cozy fireplaces, espresso makers, deep soak tubs and stress-melting views. Mornings begin with an amazing breakfast, and evenings bring the finest dining and a superb wine selection. On-site, I’ve loved “Fancy Friday” with DJ Serena followed by Saturday morning somatic yoga. Nearby, you can explore charming downtown Middlebury, stroll along the Otter Creek Falls, tour local breweries and wineries, or enjoy scenic drives through Vermont’s Green Mountains. It’s the perfect mix of relaxation, fine dining, and local adventure. I can’t wait to return with my fur baby in tow for another royal getaway.” — N’neka H., 5 stars

“We recently celebrated our son’s wedding and used the Swift House as our home away from home. There just might not be enough adjectives to describe how perfect Mathew Robinson and his team made our visit. First, the location. It can’t be beat, walking distance to everything Middlebury. Second, the Inn itself. Separated into three buildings surrounded by gorgeous gardens, each and every room is comfortable, pretty, filled with every amenity you can think of and some you never thought of. Third, the staff could not be more accommodating. From Brett who I think slept at the registration desk as he was always there when we needed him. To Linus who made breakfast every morning a family affair. To Mathew, who truly makes every guest feel like family, you cannot ask for a more welcoming stay. Fourth, the food and drinks that came out of the kitchen and bar were delicious. Pretty last minute we asked Mathew if he could do a dinner party for us for 35 people who were coming in Thursday evening for the wedding. Of course he responded yes and then he executed an absolutely perfect kick off to our wedding weekend. Again his staff in the kitchen and at the bar and all the servers worked very hard to make this last minute Thursday evening event so memorable. Truly, if you have an event or even just find yourself in Middlebury VT, there is only one place to stay, The Swift House. Thank you Mathew and team, for making our wedding weekend magical.” — Lynn R., 5 stars

“We stayed three nights in The Mansfield Room in the Carriage House as part of a two week New England road trip. Our room was in the Carriage House which is located at the back of the large property with its own parking area, a 30 second drive from the Gate House where check in is done, and a 30 second walk from the main house which also houses Jessica’s restaurant where breakfast is taken. Access is down one flight of stairs or from a path that winds through the garden to a semi private patio. Weather was a bit chilly for sitting outside but it would be delightful in summer. The room is large with a comfortable king size bed, a good sized bathroom with shower over bath and plenty of hanging space. No outside noise that we could hear – we slept well. We had a superb meal one evening in Jessica’s and enjoyed a chat with owner Matthew from whom this is clearly a labour of love. The town of Middlebury is also delightful and well worth a morning mooch. We thoroughly enjoyed the efficiency and friendliness of the staff but it is very much an inn rather than a B&B with staff in branded casual uniform and a set way of doing things. And therein lies our one issue – the buffet breakfast. On arrival we had to book times for each morning with everything done through Open Table which meant three texts in quick succession as we were asking questions. Business like and it may work for them but I got the impression that people were turning up when they felt like it. Ultimately this meant that food ran out or wasn’t as warm as it should have been. Staff were lovely and would happily make you an omelette or scrambled eggs instead so why not offer a plated main course in the first place? Having said that, it certainly wouldn’t put us off staying here again and we thoroughly recommend the Swift House Inn.” — adamhornets, 5 stars

"This is our second time staying at the Swift House and it is always a wonderful experience. The rooms are lovely, the beds comfortable, and the bathrooms nice. The breakfast is delicious, and Jessica’s is so good. The bar is also great - it has an old school vibe. We came with our 10 month old baby and they were very accommodating, setting up a pack and play in our room and a high chair for breakfast. One of the owners, Matthew, was very friendly told us about all of the art throughout the inn. I highly recommend the Swift House. We will definitely be back!"

"The Swift House offered our family respite and kindness in recent years as we navigated the challenges of having my mother-in-law in memory care at nearby Otter Creek. We stayed in pairs, singles, and groups as needs arose including a large family celebration in Dec. 2023. The staff is wonderfully kind and accommodating. The food is excellent. The rooms are immaculate and gardens spectacular. It is a classic inn with modern touches. There is not a fitness center on the grounds which was the only shortcoming for some family members. We will likely not return because of the passing of our matriarch but we will remember it fondly and highly recommend to others fortunate to visit."

"We have now stayed at the Swift House Inn twice. Once in a smaller room in the main Lodge and once in a bit of a larger room where the restaurant is. We've enjoyed our stay both times. When we visit Middlebury in the future we will definitely look to stay there. Keep in mind the breakfast they offer for staying there is absolutely phenomenal. Don't make you as much food as you want and whatever you want. The staff bent over backwards to make us feel comfortable. We had an amazing server named Bager who took care of us each day. Wow you made us feel at home even while away."
