What Guests Are Saying

“McKenna in the dining room was great! Very personable and helpful, she helped me and my daughter have an amazing Mother’s Day weekend! All the staff was very friendly and accommodating. We loved staying off season, less crowds and we really got to enjoy the beauty of the island.” — Michelle F., 5 stars

“Our booked hotel didn’t have hot water so we literally walked in to 1661 at 4:45 PM on Friday May 1 where Emily helped us with an incredible room (Arthur) overlooking the ocean at a very reasonable rate (pre peak season). Spacious is an understatement as there was a living room area with fireplace and mini kitchenette with a pull out sofa bed and 2 chairs. Next to it was the king bed and entry into a bathroom with double sinks, walk in shower for 2 (2 sets of jets on the wall as well as 2 rain showers) and a jacuzzi bathtub with a towel warming rack. 1661 has incredible views of the ocean, as well as a lovely wine and nibbles (cheese, crackers, fruit) where the bartender offered a generous pour as it was about to end. Nibbled and drank a much needed glass of wine outside as the shadows came over the hotel and the salty air got a little crispier. Free breakfast (a medium sized buffet) the following morning was such a delight: scrambled eggs, bacon, juices, prosecco for mimosas, pastries, cereal, oatmeal. Be sure to tip the staff - bartender, breakfast staff, room service, etc. Check out the farm across the street with all kinds of animals, farmstore was not yet open. Walk the other way to see the amazing bluffs (see profile pic) and the lighthouse. Property is walkable to the ferry, shops, stores and other restaurants. Highly recommend 1661!” — Scott W., 5 stars

“I cannot express enough how much we enjoyed our 2 night stay at the 1661. We truly enjoyed the beautiful scenery, kind and helpful staff, the walkable location to all of the shops and the delicious and generous breakfasts and wine and nibble hour. We hope to return again!” — Jessica M., 5 stars

"Just had a wonderful 2 night stay. The jacuzzi tub was wonderful. I feel so rested and relaxed, exactly what you want from a vacation. Breakfast was generous and why not have a mimosa at 9am? The 4:00 bites and sips was also lovely and a nice moment to interact with other guests and attentive staff. The farm across the street was a delight! A camel?! Kangaroos and lemurs?! Can’t wait to come back in warmer weather."

"My husband and I spent the weekend of October 11 2025 at 1661 Resort. The breakfast buffet, and the "wine and nibbles" served at 4:00 every afternoon were delicious...and at no extra charge. However the true test of their excellent hospitality was proven when a hurricane came roaring in on Sunday. There would be no more ferries until Wednesday morning. So our original two nights became four. Our extra nights were chanrged at half price. Our original room was in a second building a 5 minute walk away, but for the last two nights we were moved to the main building. It was a spacious, beautiful room with a bathroom you dream about. The breakfast and afternoon nibbles were still provided every day, even though the extra guests were not planned and there were no ferries coming in with supplies. The hotel owners and their staff could not have been more gracious throughout the experience. I highly recommend 1661 Resort to anyone of any age visiting Block Island."

"★★★★★ A perfect Block Island retreat Our stay at the Campbell Cottage (a 1661 Resort property) was simply fantastic! The newly renovated and spacious two bedroom Cottage is perfectly located: with a view of the ocean, adjacent to the 1661 garden, animal farm and yoga studio, across the street from the 1661 Inn, and a short walk to town. This is the third 1661 Resort property we have stayed in and we continue be impressed by the warm, friendly staff as well as the condition of the properties. Don’t miss the delicious champagne breakfast (available at the Inn), which features fresh vegetables straight from the inn's own expansive garden. The owner, Rita Draper, is a truly wonderful hostess, and it was clear how much she and her staff care about making every guest's experience special. With cozy rooms, incredible food, and unparalleled hospitality, the 1661 Resort exceeded all our expectations. We can't wait to return!"
