About The Hotel

Sonesta Select Newport Middletown delivers dependable mid-range comfort. The 3.8-star property on Commerce Drive off the Main Road corridor combines clean, modern rooms (4.0 sub-rating) with good service (4.2) and solid cleanliness (4.2). An indoor pool, fitness center, coffee shop, free parking, and pet-friendly policy appeal to families and business travelers alike. Sub-ratings for location (3.9) and value (3.9) reflect solid positioning — good comfort without premium pricing. Reviews note nice mirrors in the bathroom and friendly staff, though a few mention the location feels remote and one called out a broken gym treadmill and limited front-desk beverages. For travelers seeking a clean, reliable room with a pool a short drive from Newport, Sonesta Select is a smart middle ground.

What Guests Are Saying

“The hotel is not in an attractive area, but it is well located for attending a Newport event, as it is relatively nearby to central Newport and the Cliff Walk. Our room was fine, except that the bathroom door would not close. The gym has two treadmills, and both had rips in their treads so were out of order, which is really awful in today’s fitness-minded world. The front desk and cafe have absolutely no bottled water or diet drinks; only full-calorie sodas, Gatorades, and juices. When trying to make a purchase (of a product I didn’t really want), I had to wait ten minutes for the sole employee on duty, as she was doing cleanup. This is not a hotel I would recommend — and the owner/franchisee clearly wants to minimize his/her investment, as other reviewers have implied — unless you’re looking for a layover, and the other options are costly.” — jeffreyq2017, 2 stars

“After booking my reservation 3rd party, I called the hotel to follow up on a few details. I mainly wanted to learn about the pool and on site dining options. The woman who answered the phone was so rude and absolutely awful I canceled my stay and booked elsewhere. I wish I could have caught her name after we spoke but she hung up on me when I asked. True, Indigenous People’s Day is a busy holiday so I get she was probably tired and a little stressed. (Definitely not the busiest of holidays though, especially for Aquidneck Island.) Some advice and something we often say in the hospitality industry: If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.” — Rebecca P., 1 star

“Sonesta Select in Newport was a suggestion for my nephew’s wedding. It is pretty, has a gym and a pool. There were a lot of weddings and pretty people there. But there were few amenities My $500/night suite was ok because it was for my nephew. But this place was in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE! I needed Uber to get food one time. I ended up getting tuna and crackers in a box another. Breakfast consisted of either dry oatmeal or cereal. One had to buy the milk. The write-up listed a concierge. NOT! Some staff were surly. Others nice. The only thing I liked about the hotel was the really nice mirror provided in the bathroom. I moved it to the desk to put on my makeup.” — Debbie L., 3 stars
