About The Hotel

The Kimpton Marlowe Hotel sits on the Charles River near CambridgeSide and Lechmere, offering a stylish, design-forward boutique experience a cut above standard Cambridge hotels. Its 4.4 rating across 264 reviews reflects exceptional cleanliness, spacious rooms with beautiful layouts, and river or city views that anchor the stay. Guests single out Kimpton’s signature service and pet-friendly policy, the complimentary wine hour each evening, and the thoughtful design throughout. It is walkable to the Green Line and the Museum of Science, and the whole city opens from there. A front-desk service complaint appears in selected reviews, but the overall package — design, cleanliness, location — makes it an excellent upscale Cambridge choice for travelers who want more than a chain hotel.

What Guests Are Saying

“I called several times to try and get a pair of shoes I had left from a stay a few weeks prior. The phone was kept on hold and I was not given a definitive answer, so I went to the hotel in person. All of the Front Desk staff were truly very sweet, patient, and accommodating- with the exception of the manager. Sophie was inmediately very short and impatient. She spoke down to me when I provided the dates of my stay, and was clearly very frustrated when she could not find me in the system. Once she found my reservation, I was given the wrong pair of shoes- with another room number on the label of the bag. I told her that these were not my shoes- and her answer was “Well this is all we have.” I told her I left my shoes with one of her colleagues, and she proceeded to raise her voice- I even had to ask for her not to talk to me like that This was after they had already confirmed my name and prior room number. I asked her to please check the bell closet, so she went to look for them there as well. While she walked away, one of the agents at the desk was kind enough to offer me some water, she was very polite. Please ensure that Sophie knows not to speak to a guest like that ever again. It was frankly very disappointing- the stay itself had been fantastic and everyone else was really kind. The shoes were ultimately found, however, I should have not been spoken to like that.” — apparentlyItravel, 2 stars

"I stayed here for a couple of days. Check-in/check-out was quick and the front desk staff were very friendly. The hotel is very nice, clean, quite and looks new. My room was great. Very spacious, very clean, very modern and the bed/bedding was awesome. I slept like a baby. The lobby, lounge areas were great. The onsite restaurant (Bambara) was fantastic. Great staff and very friendly. The food was very good (Smoked St. Lous Ribs). The text messaging service option was great. The staff (Garrett & Michael) replied promptly and offered instant updates on any questions I had. I would definitely book this hotel again on my next visit to Boston/Cambridge."

"Spectacular visit, and even MORE spectacular staff! Shout out to Garrett, Sophie, Michael (sorry we’re forgetting a few other helpful peoples’ names 😬) The hotel itself has great amenities and activities (to name a few—- delicious complimentary coffee in the morning, and a fun Campari spritz in the evening!) Also a wonderful dinner menu (we tried a wide sampling and literally everything was great.) But above and beyond were the staffs’ helpfulness, and great energy! (Bonus shout out to Garrett and his awesome pink coat) Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area! Cheers!"

"I'll admit, Boston has been a hard city to find a hotel that suits my needs at an appropriate price. As the new ownership of my formerly preferred Marriott has turned their Cambridge hotel into a scam, I decided to give Kimpton a chance. My experience with IHG, and especially Kimpton has been very positive (mostly in Philadelphia). The Marlowe was another great example of what IHG is doing right, a comfortable hotel with some personality in a great location. The hotel is super dog friendly - so dog friendly in fact that our room still has a good amount of pet hair when we arrived. I'll say they absolutely offered to do another cleaning and remove it, and we felt it was not worth it - still, if absolute cleanliness is your first priority (and you aren't traveling with pets) maybe another hotel is a better fit. The location is ideal, with an underground connection to the local mall allowing an easy morning coffee and quick start to a day. Tons of shops in the mall mean if you forgot anything, you don't have to worry, and plenty of shopping to be had. The hotel was wonderfully festive and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They were quick to adjust our checkout time to suit our needs and responsive throughout our stay. This will be my primary Boston/Cambridge hotel moving forward, and I hope I'll not need to find another."
