Main streets like Mass Ave and Memorial Drive are walkable, and the entire city opens up on foot or by bike. Parking is expensive and difficult, so the subway and your feet are your best friends — and they work beautifully. A car is optional — Cambridge is very walkable and the subway reaches Harvard, MIT, and Boston easily; parking is expensive.
