Best Western Plus Brandywine Inn & Suites
"A 4.1-rated Best Western Plus with pool, racquetball and tennis court in downtown Monticello."
About The Hotel
The Best Western Plus Brandywine Inn & Suites is a 4.1-rated (342 reviews) BW Plus on South 6th Street in downtown Monticello. Amenities include a shared pool, fitness center, free breakfast, racquetball court, tennis court and kids-stay-free rooms — a value pool hotel with a broader amenities footprint than typical highway BW Plus properties. Subratings run 3.9–4.4 with location (4.4) strongest and value (3.9) weakest. Candid: recent 2025 reviews flag pool area maintenance issues including falling plaster from the ceiling, mold on walls and broken chairs — verify pool condition at check-in and set expectations for a value-tier property rather than a top-of-brand BW Plus. Best for Indiana Beach families, Lake Freeman weekend visitors and Purdue-parent day-trippers wanting a downtown value pool hotel with BW Rewards loyalty. No in-room jacuzzi advertised; for a genuine private soak drive 60 minutes southeast to Colfax’s Cabins & Candlelight.
What Guests Are Saying
“I didn’t know anything about this hotel except it was close to where I needed to be the following morning. I was pleased with the location, the check-in process and the cleanliness of the room. I left my charger in the room and when I called to let the staff know, they found it and promised to send it back to me. Wonderful customer service, which can’t be said for all hotels!” — joann_alumbaugh, 5 stars
“Staying here was a pleasant experience all around. The check-in was a breeze. The receptionists were friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean and very comfortable. Lots of pillows. The morning breakfast and coffee were a nice perk. I would definitely stay here again.” — Sharon B., 5 stars
“It’s gone downhill. I haven’t been to this location in a few years. We used to stay regularly and we always talked about how clean and nice the facilities were. Before I booked this time, I saw a lot of negative reviews, but I decided to see for myself. They weren’t wrong. The moment we walked in, the first thing I noticed was that the floor looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in days. You can still tell that the place was really nice at one point, but it’s just not being kept up. The furniture in the lobby is damaged and scraped, and it’s just not being cleaned the way it should be. The hallways and the room floors were also not vacuum ed. (See pictures) The ice machines were broken, the vending machines were broken, and the computer and the Business Center was broken. I walked down to the pool because I read the negative reviews. Again, I hate to say it, but the reviews did not lie. The entire pool area has a strange musty smell that I can’t quite put my finger on. Hot tub out of order, but not drained, so full of stagnent water. I’ll let my pictures speak for themselves. As I said, the carpet in our room was not vacuum. There was even a toy on a chair left over from a previous tenant. There were a few stains on the fitted sheets of the bed. Again, see pics. The breakfast was nothing to write home about. Instant oatmeal white bagels and white toast. Some eggs, sausage and underdone tater tots. In terms of location for Indiana Beach amusement park, this place is awesome! However, it seems me to see that the new owners have just let this place deteriorate to the point that it is now. It has a lot of potential, it’s just going to take some elbow grease and some higher cleaning standards to fix it up. Another thing I found disturbing was some of the responses by the hotel owner to people on tripadvisor. When people would give a negative review, there are some responses from the hotel that say things like “Good stay away”. And “Thank you for NOT staying with us again”. I have never seen anything like that before. Something that I am waiting on to see is if my double room charge is going to be rectified. I was charged at about 11:00 a.m. on the day that we checked in. I found that to be totally normal. I got the alert on my text message that my credit card has been charged. However, I was charged again when I checked in. I showed them the text message that I had already been charged once, and they told me that was totally normal, and that I would be getting refunded one of those charges. I have never had something like this happen before, and if I do not get my refund in the next 24 hours, I will be updating this review.” — Cheryl K., 3 stars

"We stayed a weekend with our 5 kids. We got two connecting rooms and they were great! Loved how close we were to restaurants and shopping. The kids were excited about the pool and hot tub but the hot tub was closed and the pool room left a lot to be desired. All in all though we would definitely stay there again"
