Essenhaus Inn & Conference Center
"Indiana's largest Amish-country resort attached to Das Dutchman Essenhaus with indoor pool."
About The Hotel
Essenhaus Inn & Conference Center is a 4.6-rated (388 reviews) resort on US-20 in Middlebury, attached to Das Dutchman Essenhaus (Indiana’s largest Amish restaurant complex). Amenities include an indoor pool, free breakfast, bicycle rental, game room, children’s playground, fitness center and conference facilities — a walk from your room to the Essenhaus buffet, the bakery, the quilt shop, the covered bridge and horse-drawn carriage rides on the grounds. Subratings run 4.4–4.8 with cleanliness (4.8) strongest and rooms (4.7) close behind. This is Indiana’s largest Amish-country resort — a family-and-heritage destination rather than a spa property. Best for Amish country families, Elkhart County heritage visitors, quilt-and-flea-market travelers and Heritage Trail auto-tour drivers wanting the marquee Amish-restaurant-and-resort combination. Candid: one 2025 review of Room 106 flags a broken refrigerator, phone and door bolt and hard bedding — verify room condition at check-in. Not an in-room jacuzzi property.
What Guests Are Saying
“This place should give seminars to others in the service industry! Everything was perfect. The staff is friendly and pleasant! When I thanked one staff member for her help she stated,” no problem, that’s my job.” I get so tired of people making excuses why they can’t do their job. These staff members enjoy their jobs and you can hear the smile in their voices. The hotel was clean and decorated in a very comfortable decor. The hallways and nooks made you want to come out of your room. The grounds are beautifully groomed with walking trails and wonderful gardens. We were talking about making a trip back before we left! We will definitely be returning.” — Tammy Z., 5 stars
“Great Stay here once again! We are here probably 2-3 times a year. Each time we can count on it being a great stay. Employees always helpful. Clean rooms. Great Breakfast! And…you can grab a lunch at the restaurant which has GREAT Broasted Chicken! Ask for a room in the Atrium part of the building. It is very quaint.” — zzmanzz, 5 stars
“I have stayed here multiple times over the last 30 years. Whilst it has grown significantly it has not lost its charm. Both myself and my family feel relaxed and comfortable as soon as we arrive.” — Christian R., 5 stars

What guests are saying about Essenhaus Inn & Conference Center.
"We were blown away by the beautiful Christmas decorations, trees, (really, a 3-storey tree?!), and roaring fireplaces. The whole place was squeaky clean and welcoming appearance. Your staff was very friendly and accommodating in spite of the pressures of a bustling, full house. We enjoyed the wonderful breakfast in the lovely breakfast room that was like a fancy restaurant complete with fireplace. Thank you for all your hard work"

View on Google"We just love this place. I was at a retreat and the conference center is so convenient to the rooms, parking, and the front desk too! The staff gets an A+!! Everyone was super nice! I really liked the note under the door so you can request what level of room service you want. Fresh sheets daily or just make the bed, etc. It’s a real treat to have someone else make the bed for a change. Seems trivial, but that was a plus for me. Lots of hotels don’t offer daily room service anymore. The breakfast room is bright and cheery and has lovely decor. The food offerings were great too! Actually the whole hotel has beautiful decor. Beautiful quilts hanging everywhere! The Atrium offers a cozy place to relax, play games, or just read a book by the fireplace. Hubby loved it too and couldn’t stop raving about it! You won’t be disappointed staying here!"
