"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A spotless mission-style boutique hotel designed as a terraced, secret-garden labyrinth. I first stayed at Hotel Pacific many years ago and returned during the holidays after also staying at another local hotel over Thanksgiving. I’m happy to say Hotel Pacific still has something increasingly rare: a genuine sense of place and soul. Our suite was beautifully laid out with a gas fireplace, roll-out sofa, nested coffee tables, four armchairs, and a small glass dining table. The living space was generous, with great lighting options, outlets everywhere, strong free Wi-Fi (no login), very comfortable beds 😴, and TV with HBO. The huge bathroom opens into the suite with locking shutters, a long vanity, soaking tub, and a separate glass-and-terracotta shower. The bathroom had an amazing melon smell, I could not figure out where it came from, maybe the hotel cleaning products? The architecture is extraordinary: a terraced, secret-garden labyrinth built into the hillside, with fountains, quiet nooks, and private patios or balconies. Even in heavy rain, the property felt calm, cozy, and welcoming. In better weather, I can only imagine how magical the outdoor spaces, private hot tub, and fire pit are. In addition to the super-convenient in and out hotel garage, the terraced design makes second-floor rooms accessible by van via rear ramp access and elevators for those with mobility issues. Short walk to historic, lively Alvarado Street with restaurants and a pharmacy nearby. Staff were kind and welcoming. It helps to verify details on the website or call at the 4 pm check-in hour if something is important to you. We would absolutely stay here again!🔥⛲️🌿"

"We so enjoyed this mission-style "feel" hotel! Loved the large suite-style rooms with couch (sofa bed) and gas fireplace. Nice little fridge and microwave. expansive bathroom with separate bath/shower and shower/toilet area. We had a our small dog & appreciated the furnished patio with planted area that she could "do her duty in" without having to go outside the hotel. GREAT proximity to downtown area, square, Fisherman's Wharf, & Ocean View trails. Lovely gardens to access around the area & historical museums, and Carmel coffee @ Portola. Continental breakfast is a nice large room but limited choices. We'd come again next time for sure! Update: we did come two weeks later to celebrate our son's birthday! We continue to love the mission styling vibe, expansive rooms, fireplace, and walking location to so much but this last time we had a back room that woke us up two mornings in a row to the garbage truck doing their pickup of the large bins. I don't quite understand why they can't have both elevators working after so many months."

"We stayed here for a weekend getaway in Monterey and were completely blown away. The hotel felt like something straight out of coastal Europe. Charming, romantic, and beautifully designed. Our spacious room was incredible, especially the balcony and cozy fireplace that made the whole stay feel extra special. One thing that absolutely captivated us was the hotel’s vintage charm. It has a soul and character that you simply don’t find anymore, and honestly, it shouldn’t ever change. Not everything needs a “modern renovation,” there are a million places where you can get a sterile, doctor’s-office-style hotel room. This place is special because it isn’t that. The people who appreciate history, warmth, and authenticity will love it exactly as it is. And the breakfast… unreal. Truly one of the best parts of our stay! Fresh, delicious, unique options, and plenty of space. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Already dreaming about coming back!"
