About The Hotel

Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront Resort is a modern high-rise Marriott directly on the Atlantic at 42nd Street on the north end of the boardwalk, next door to the Historic Cavalier. The property runs an outdoor pool, the rooftop Orion Restaurant with sweeping ocean views, bicycle and water-sport rentals, and near-perfect cleanliness (4.6) and location (4.8) scores. It is a modern oceanfront resort rather than an in-room-jacuzzi property — the soak here is by the pool with an Atlantic view rather than a private tub. Guest praise centers on room size, front-desk service (with Anthony Crispin and PJ named repeatedly in recent reviews) and the north-end quiet, with occasional restaurant-service and legacy-IT complaints. Best for travelers who want a modern, well-rated Marriott on the calmer north end of the boardwalk.

What Guests Are Saying

“This was our first stay at this hotel. We come to Virginia Beach every summer. We had a great first experience. Check-in was seamless and we actually got into our room 20 minutes early. The room was exactly as I had requested – a panoramic view with balcony. The balcony was huge! It was a corner room, so we had a view of the oceanfront and then a sideview of the pools. We could even see the beautiful Cavalier property from our balcony. We spent our evenings and mornings enjoying the balcony views. I highly recommend this room. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The staff by the pool were efficient, and they were always coming by to check on us. Housekeeping was reliable, and the room was very clean. There was plenty of storage in the room, and the bed was comfortable. It was not as warm during our visit, so the outdoor pool temp was chilly. But it was OK once you got used to it. They have these lounge chairs that you can pull into the most shallow end of the pool. That was really awesome on the hot sunny day where I spent poolside. Tulu takes care of the pool bar. But if you want a frozen cocktail, you can walk over to The Deck. I think it’s technically part of the cavalier beach club, but we are permitted to use it. That restaurant has delicious food and wonderful views of the ocean and the resort. The bartender was great! She made me a frozen piña colada. The tasted delicious. It was quite the treat on a hot day. We ate dinner at Orion’s Roof our first night. It’s an Asian fusion restaurant on the rooftop of the hotel with spectacular views. The wait staff was very friendly and the manager came out to say hello and ask how our meal was. The restaurant has very interesting decor. We didn’t have any cocktails that night, but they looked really good. The second night we walked across the street to the Cavalier, a historic hotel and resort. We ate dinner downstairs at the Hunt Room, which is a storied pub and restaurant. We had delicious crabcakes and Parmesan truffle fries. I had a smoked old-fashioned. That was one of the best I’ve had. The property has its own distillery, Tarnished Truth. It looks like fun events happen at the Cavalier resort all the time. We will have to come back and try to partake in some of those. In the mornings, we walked over to the resort to have coffee and pastries at Becca. We got to sit amongst the beautiful gardens and catch the morning sun. Between the restaurants at the modern resort and the historic hotel, we did not have to drive anywhere the entire four days! There were so many things to enjoy that it wasn’t necessary to go anywhere else. Our last night there, we listened to a free concert from our balcony that was sponsored by an organization having a conference at the hotel. Although this resort is not technically on the boardwalk, it’s a very short distance. You can walk to restaurants and shops nearby. But you have quieter evenings, and it feels very safe. It’s the perfect place to enjoy all of the best that Virginia Beach has to offer.” — Carla M., 5 stars

“This Marriott did not disappoint! Comfortable, well-appointed rooms. We were grateful for very efficient AC since outside temps exceeded 100 degrees during our stay. The property is well taken care of with a top-notch staff! The staff are helpful and no doubt intend to please their guests. They work together like a fine-tuned machine. Most notable was the pool staff, in particular Angelina. She was friendly and went out of her way to accommodate us with our need for shade, towels, etc. all the while hustling around the pool to set up towels and pulling them off as guests left. Another notable and solid team was the Bar staff at Orion’s. Five bartenders behind the bar made certain that no one had an empty glass. This team is happy, friendly, and boy do they know their stuff! Great creative cocktails. Lauren made the majority of our drinks and she is super talented!” — scubaprop4, 5 stars

“Our flight out of Norfolk was canceled twice and we were put on a return flight two days later! Decided to ride out the heat wave at the Marriot. Did not disappoint. Beautiful view, clean and comfortable room, great showers, relaxing atmosphere and good restaurants. We enjoyed the Deck where you can sit right by the beach. And have a casual meal. Highly recommend.” — Caroline B., 5 stars

"The front desk check in and service is spectacular. Lillith and Anthony were specifically outstanding. Lillith is the person every hotel hopes to hire as a supervisor. Tulu is a good breakfast spot and the staff cares about your experience! Every now and then they were a little slow when the restaurant wasn’t busy. Orions on the other hand is ridiculously overpriced. $52 Manhattan! Their food is just fair. What they do have is a beautiful setting with wonderful views. Go there have a coke and look around. If you want to eat, walk across the street to Arbuckle’s or the Hunt Room. Better food and more reasonable prices."

"The rooms are nice, and a major reason we chose to stay here in December was the warm indoor pool. Unfortunately, the pool wasn’t even lukewarm, so we weren’t able to enjoy it at all. That was very disappointing. Otherwise, the property is beautiful and clean."
