“We found the Prospect Hill Inn while planning for an all day excursion on the Virginia Scenic Railway out of Louisa, VA (a railfan trip which I highly recommend). We extended our trip for a few days to also visit Monticello (Charlottesville) and the Frontier Culture Museum (Staunton). The Inn is comprised of a manor house and other buildings dating to the mid 18th century and situated on about 40 acres of rolling countryside. The definition of tranquil, bucolic, and historic. Hosts T and Jim are ex tech executives who left that universe to follow a dream. What works at Prospect Hill is the marriage of their attention to detail, operations expertise, and dedication/passion to their venture. T (who is the front-of-house person) is an outstanding host and a pleasure to get to know. We stayed in Uncle Guy’s House, an outbuilding that is charming and well appointed. If you are looking for a writing surface, the antique gate-leg table at the foot of the bed works fine - as long as you don’t bury it under the extra pillows and forget that it is there. [Note for T and Jim; I suggest adding a few shelves at the bottom of the armoire to stand in for a dresser.] Breakfast was excellent and your hosts are more than happy to make adjustments to meet dietary restrictions and particular tastes. The grounds are fantastic and we were able to spend one evening walking the trails and enjoying the various sitting areas around the property. In this regard we would say you will get the most for your money if you allocate time at Prospect Hill to relax and enjoy the grounds and facilities. If you are there primarily for a place to sleep and have breakfast you may feel it is on the expensive side. A trade off for the idyllic setting, if you are going to spend your day time in Charlottesville or Staunton, is the commute time to those cities. However, I-64 is a stone’s throw (ok, five miles and eleven minutes) from Prospect Hill and that freeway is minimally congested and moves quickly. All and all, the Prospect Hill Inn met, and often exceeded, all of our most important boxes. “The owners, Terenee and Jim, have created something special at Prospect Hill Inn. My wife and stayed there last August, shortly after Terenee and Jim had taken over as owners, and we greatly enjoyed our stay. We just returned and were even happier with our stay. All of the good things associated with our first stay (attentive and professional service, clean and comfortable rooms, beautiful grounds, great breakfasts, being warmly welcomed) are even truer today. Terenee and Jim have continued to improve both the facilities and the grounds; for example, the pool has been updated and a beautiful wildflower meadow has been added. In addition, we took advantage of the Saturday night five course dinner and it was wonderful. The attentive service has remained and it was truly a pleasure getting to interact with the owners. “T and Jim have done a wonderful job restoring the Inn to its former glory! The property is truly beautiful! Prospect Hill is perfect for romantic getaways, family reunions, groups of friends, weddings, and anniversaries. We stayed at the Inn for two days in July and the pool was idyllic. Took a morning walk on the lovely nature trail. Sipped wine in the gazebo one evening. Imagined (it was July!) using the fire pit overlooking a hill and distant trees on a cool fall evening. Traveled to Monticello, a quick drive down the Interstate. Took two new tours, From Slavery to Freedom and Founding Friends-Founding Foes on Jefferson and Adams. Lunch in between tours at Pippen Hill Farm and Winery which has both wonderful food and wonderful wine! Dined second night in Gordonsville and had a lovely French dinner at Pres Des Pres.
