“The EXCEPTIONAL care of particular person made this stay incredible…her name is Cherie!!! She initially gave my husband a room at the end of the hall, but when she saw me helping my mom walk, she immediately asked if we wanted a room closer to the elevator. Cherie did this before I even asked!! Next, we realized there was no freezer in the room. My mom is an insulin-dependent diabetic and her freezer packs had thawed. I went downstairs to ask if there was any way to freeze the packs. Cherie took the packs, put them in a bag with our room number, and placed them in the freezer. “I always stay in Southaven when I have an early morning flight out of Memphis and have been in Mississippi for work. This time, however, I accidentally booked the wrong HIE hotel! Upon arrival, everything looked very different/unfamiliar to me and I was a bit confused. Turns out there are two HIE within a mile of each other and I’ve always stayed at the other one……woops! Unfortunately, service at check-in here was basically nonexistent, and I appeared to be interrupting the young girl who was on her phone and sitting in the breakfast area when I arrived. I had all my luggage with me and she asked me why I was there … um … I’m checking in? She was completely unhelpful and I had to even ask all the usual suspect questions: breakfast, checkout time, and even how to get to my room! She didn’t once smile or make me feel welcome. In good news, I had a great room, the hotel was in walking distance to a supermarket and some restaurants, and everything was super clean and seemed quite new. Lots of space in my room and it was definitely very quiet (I slept very well!) — except perhaps the very, very creaky floors! I could hear the guests moving about above me… Free parking, extra large parking spaces, and a business center with printer were all bonuses … except the computers were “down“ when I went to print something … the elevators were also exceptionally slow, so I ended up taking the stairs each time. I was very impressed with the large, well equipped gym, and the indoor pool also looked well kept. I used the guest laundry, which was very handy ($3 wash, $2.50 dryer) — note you will need cash and can get quarters for the machines from the front desk (though me asking for them was definitely a hassle for the girl at the front……). Really not impressed with the staff here (check-out was almost as unfriendly as check-in and in the evening, when I went downstairs to get something, there were no staff to be found … a line of confused and slightly agitated guests was in the lobby waiting to check-in) .
