About The Hotel

The Essex Street Inn & Suites, an Ascend Hotel Collection property, sits on Essex Street in the heart of Newburyport’s Federal-era brick downtown, steps from Market Square and the waterfront. It scores 4.4 across 875 reviews and is consistently praised for pristine cleanliness, an inviting atmosphere, and friendly staff. The free breakfast variety and afternoon treats earn particular mention, as does the central location ideal for exploring the downtown shops, galleries, and restaurants. While downtown street parking rather than a private lot and some guests noting smaller or dated rooms are trade-offs, the overall charm, central location, and proximity to Plum Island, the Clipper City Rail Trail, and Maudslay State Park make it a compelling choice for couples and seaport lovers.

"We had the whole hotel blocked out for our wedding. Kathy was extremely helpful in planning our wedding weekend stay and we couldn’t have been happier with the price, cleanliness, and location. Right in the center of the amazing town, and a very accommodating staff. Would absolutely recommend for event blocks or just for a great spot to explore Newburyport!"

"Beautiful faclity tucked away on a quiet side street near shops and restaurants. It also seems like a bed and breakfast. It’s a great departure from the usual hotels I stay at and will definitely return often. The staff are excellent!!"

"Some of the most friendly customer service I've ever experienced was here from making reservations over the phone to being received at the front door. They always made sure all of my needs along with my wives were met. They make sure everything was blind accessible for my wife and I. The hotel was extremely clean, well organized and easy to navigate. Parking was not a problem. My only gripe was the king size bed. Although very big, the mattress was so heavily broken into extremely noisy and uncomfortable, but that is not to blame the staff. The bathrooms were pristine and the location is perfect. You can walk practically everywhere and anywhere and I would recommend Angie's Cafe down the street. Get the lobster Benedict 🙂 I would definitely return but this time we're getting the hot tub sweet"
