What Guests Are Saying

“This is hands-down the best bed and breakfast—or place of any kind—I’ve ever stayed at in Boston. Possibly ever. I’ve paid more for hotels that offered less comfort, less charm, and exactly zero soul. Let’s start with Bobby and Stephen, who redefine what it means to be “hosts.” They are genuinely warm, wildly helpful, and somehow manage to strike the perfect balance between giving you space and making you feel completely taken care of. They handed us maps filled with thoughtful, actually-good recommendations (not the usual tourist fluff) and backed them up with real conversations and local insight. Every suggestion landed. Thanks to them, we visited the Opera House one night, toured Fenway Park on another day, and ate some of the best dinners of our trip—places we never would’ve found on our own. Their dinner recommendations alone deserve a standing ovation. The location is unreal. You can walk everywhere. Historic streets, cafés, restaurants, parks, iconic Boston spots—everything is right there - and close to the train to venture out further. It’s somehow the most central location in the city while still being peaceful, romantic, and tucked into a neighborhood that feels lived-in and special. The house itself feels like a home you wish you owned. Beautiful, cozy, and elegant without being intimidating. You sleep well. You linger in the morning. You feel calm. It’s romantic in a quiet, grown-up way—not flashy, just deeply comfortable. And the final plot twist: it’s more affordable than a hotel. But better in every possible way. More character, more care, more space, more heart. Hotels should absolutely be concerned. If you’re on the fence, don’t be. Book it. You’ll leave already planning your return and wondering why you ever stayed anywhere else.” — M M., 5 stars

“This is our favorite place to stay in Boston. We haven’t been here since before the pandemic, and I am happy to say that Clarendon Square is better than ever. First, the common areas are beautifully decorated and inviting with lots of room to relax. Each room is warm, inviting and outfitted with tastefully curated furniture, Frette linens, towels and bathrobes. The beds are super comfortable. The bathrooms are totally redone and supplied with Molton Brown products. Clarendon Square has an amazing amenity- a rooftop hot tub where you can see all of downtown aglow at night! What a treat. The inn has a keypad entry and is in a wonderful location for great restaurants in walking distance and close to everything you might want to do, minus the congestion, noise and corporate feel of a major hotel. Steven and Bobbie are the owners and amazing hosts that will make your stay memorable in every respect. If you need help or advice, they are available. Obviously, they care very much about the inn and making your stay here nearly perfect. Thank you so much! My advice is to definitely stay here. You won’t be sorry.” — Linda K., 5 stars

“We recently stayed at The Clarendon Square Inn. Nestled in the heart of the South End, the property captures the historical brownstone charm while offering all the modern luxuries of a premier boutique hotel. We were lucky to be given an upgrade upon arrival! The room felt less like a hotel and more like a high-end pied-a-terre. Beautifully appointed! The bed was incredibly comfortable and the amenities were top-tier. Don’t miss the rooftop! We were pleasantly surprised to find a deck tucked away upstairs with a hot tub. Although, we did not have enough time to enjoy the hot tub, we did make time for a cocktail with beautiful views of the city. A total bonus to an already wonderful boutique stay. I should also mention that this was a last minute getaway. Thank you to Stephen for being such a gracious host. Your website is so well done and your help with the booking process was much appreciated. Can’t wait to go back! Thank you, Cathy and Jeff” — Sherpa15320658267, 5 stars

"I have been staying here for 18 years and this is a gem of a hotel/B&B with no parallel in the world. A hot tub on the roof with stunning views, superior comfort in every room, one of the most charming and beautiful streets of Boston, and every detail attended to. Lounge and public space is lovely. Drinks, glasses, robes, towels for the hot tub are all provided. This is a niche boutique hotel that's absolutely worth checking out. Hosts are extremely experienced and warm, and able to help with anything. Restaurant recommendations were top notch. I live in San Francisco and I was amazed at the food at all three places recommended by the hosts."

"If you’re looking for a boutique stay that feels like home with a touch of luxury, Clarendon Square in Boston’s South End is hard to beat. From the moment we stepped in, we were impressed by thoughtful design, charming historic touches, and a warmth that’s often missing in larger hotels. The owner couldn’t have been friendlier — welcoming, attentive, and clearly passionate about making guests feel special. The whole place is beautifully restored, with marble bathrooms, designer fabrics, artwork, and just enough modern comfort to make it feel indulgent without being over the top. One of the standout perks was the rooftop hot tub. Getting in there with views of the Boston skyline, especially around sunset, was a treat. It felt like a little secret escape after a long day of walking around the city. The location is excellent. It’s in a safe, walkable neighborhood where you can catch good restaurants, pretty streets, and all the character of Boston. We were able to walk to the Freedom Trail and many other iconic spots without having to rely on transit too much. We’d absolutely stay here again. It combines style, comfort, great service, and a superb location — exactly the kind of place that makes a trip memorable. Highly recommend to anyone wanting that boutique B&B feeling with all the perks."
