Indiana State University campus on Wabash Avenue is Terre Haute's largest anchor — home to the Hulman Center basketball arena, the Cunningham Memorial Library and the ISU Bookstore. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on the east side is a top-ranked private engineering college with a compact walkable campus and the Oakley Observatory.
The Eugene V. Debs Museum on North 8th Street preserves the home of the labor leader and five-time Socialist presidential candidate (1900–1920) — a National Historic Landmark that documents the founding of the American Railway Union and the Debs presidential campaigns. The Clabber Girl Museum downtown in the original Hulman & Company building covers baking-powder history and the Hulman family (later owners of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway).
The Historic Vigo County Courthouse on Wabash Avenue is a beaux-arts landmark, and Terre Haute Children's Science Museum downtown gives families a rainy-day option with hands-on exhibits. Fowler Park pioneer village on the south side reconstructs an 1840s Indiana village on 400 wooded acres.
