About The Hotel
If you’re a horror movie fan or just want a unique hotel experience, this historic spot delivers some serious hot tub vibes. The in-room Jacuzzis are perfect for unwinding after exploring Rocky Mountain National Park, which sits right next to the hotel. Some suites have private whirlpools that let you soak while enjoying mountain views.
Guests really like this place, though its TripAdvisor ranking sits at #30 out of 31 hotels in Estes Park, with a 3.6 rating. The hotel is most famous for inspiring Stephen King’s “The Shining,” so paranormal fans will get an extra thrill. But beyond the spooky history, the rooms with hot tubs are the real attraction for travelers seeking relaxation.
The hotel offers basic amenities like free WiFi, a restaurant, and a bar. But let’s be honest - the in-room Jacuzzis are the star. What guests are saying about Stanley Hotel:
"Visiting The Stanley Hotel was an incredible experience! I went on the Shining tour, and it was fascinating to learn about Stephen King, how he stayed at the hotel, and how it inspired his famous book The Shining. It was really interesting to hear the stories behind the hotel’s history, architecture, and how the book even helped save the hotel from being destroyed. The guides were knowledgeable, engaging, and full of fun facts. The hotel itself is beautifully preserved, and walking through the halls gives you a real sense of its history and charm. If you’re a fan of Stephen King, haunted history, or just love unique historic hotels, the Stanley is a must-visit. I highly recommend taking the tour and seeing the hotel up close. (I’ll be adding pictures from the tour to capture the amazing interiors and atmosphere!)"

Our guide, Savannah, was personable, witty and super funny. Really the best personality for someone to walk you through some of the spooky parts of the hotel. All staff we encountered were very friendly and we had a great time. It's worth it to note that none of the movie was filmed there, but we still enjoyed the tidbits and other facts relating to Stephen King, the book and the original owners of the hotel. We looked at booking a room, but it is a bit pricey and we decided maybe next time. We looked at a standard king room which was going to be $500 for the night. A cool novelty, but not practical to spend within our budget."

This historic gem, famously known for inspiring Stephen King’s "The Shining," offers a unique blend of charm and a touch of the eerie. Dining at the hotel’s restaurant was a delightful experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The menu featured a range of delicious options, and I particularly enjoyed the locally sourced dishes that highlighted the flavors of Colorado. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the hotel’s famous **maze**. Wandering through the beautifully landscaped hedges was both fun and a bit whimsical. It’s the perfect spot for photos and enjoying the fresh mountain air. I also took some time to visit the **pet cemetery** on the hotel grounds. It’s a touching tribute to the beloved pets of past guests and provides a unique glimpse into the hotel’s history. The atmosphere in this quiet spot was both serene and reflective. Overall, my visit to The Stanley Hotel was a memorable adventure filled with history, great dining, and charming attractions. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique experience in the heart of the Rockies!"
