North Adams sits at the junction of Route 2 — the Mohawk Trail — and Route 8 in the far northern Berkshires, tucked beneath Mount Greylock near the Vermont line. Most visitors arrive by car: Albany, New York, and its airport are about an hour west, while Bradley/Hartford is roughly two hours south, so a vehicle is essential for reaching the mountain, the Clark Art Institute, and the Mohawk Trail. The one happy exception is the inn itself — The Porches sits directly across River Street from MASS MoCA and within an easy walk of downtown's galleries, breweries, and restaurants, so a museum-focused stay can largely be done on foot.
